I can drop some knowledge about the running in the halls thing for elementary schools (in the US). I'm the same age as Peniel ('93 liner) and a licensed educator who has taught kindergarten, 1st grade, and 3rd grade. The reason we don't want kids running in the halls is: 1) Children have very, very poor motor skills. They are very bad at controlling their bodies. You'd be surprised how many kids accidentally headbutt a classmate running in the halls or at recess, knocking out the other kids' teeth. It's pretty gross. And someone ends up crying and/or injured, in which we have to contact the parents 2) If a child gets hurt, the parents will come after the teachers as if we caused it. We get blamed for so many things, we're literally the toilet of schools. That's why we try to preemptively nip it in the bud. 3) Running causes chaos and noise, where we don't want chaos and a little noise is fine as long as it's not disruptive (the noise part really depends on the teacher's personal ideals). But you give a 1st grader just a fraction of a chance to explode and disrupt the class, they'll take it and rip it open. A chaotic classroom is not a productive classroom and some students, especially introverts, will feel unsafe in the chaos.

Yes!! I’m a Preschol teacher and when they were like “why weren’t we allowed to run” I immediately thought of the chaos, incidents and angry parents!!!

I think Leah is a genius. When they were talking about the buttons on razor phones being too small, she said you would try to hit a, but actually type asdf. To BM's point about preferring to be friends with someone whose got no practical life skills but is kind, good friends will show that person the ropes, bad friends will just take advantage of one's lack of social interaction awareness and impressionability.

I really relate to the person with lack of social and practical skills. I disagree with Ashley, Leah, Peniel, and BM about not developing skills until you move out. I think most people develop these skills at least by middle school.
