love your comments everyone and thanks for the support.. for those of you that dont know it would take about 5 yrs for that size hook to rust out of his mouth... Also poisonous fish! lol yes if you eat the internal organ that has the poison.. A puffer fish is quite harmless unless you stick your finger in his mouth and then he will probably break your finger because of the pressure from the plate in its jaw.. :-) We merely practiced what we call here in Hawaii, Aloha....

wow, the fish was very cooperative, it looked nervous, but stayed calm. It probably wanted to hook out and as to not even inflate when being handled.

Incredibly brave because the puffer fish could have easily bit off a finger with its strong beak. The diver was extremely careful and gentle so it wouldn't feel threatened.

Two things impress me about this video. The first is the gentleness of the diver and his caring attitude. The second is the intelligence of the puffer fish. It came to a diver for help and stayed fairly calm while a human was handling it. If this was in the wild, we have to upgrade the assumed intelligence of puffer fish based on this one fish's actions.

Shame on all of you, that fish paid $80 for that piercing and now he has to pay to get it replaced

This was awesome. Notice how the diver was also careful not make it puff too much (this would be extremely stressful). I'm sure it made a full recovery.

This was a really kind act. You put yourself in a pretty risky situation, (Puffer Fish are very very poisonous because of the tetrodotoxin in their spikes) just to help another living animal. Also that fish was adorable, it looks like a cartoon or something.

Its very rare for me to smile at the action of a human. Today is one of those rare days :)

This is beautiful to watch...you are a very kind man...and very brave, with all those spines and no gloves! What i found interesting was that the puffer didn't inflate himself at all while you were doing that...just a bit at the very end when you were extracting the horrible barb.

January, 2016, after hundreds of dives on several dive trips, I saw a fish go swimming by with a hook in his mouth and about 4-5 inches of line trailing behind. Made me do a double take. This one wouldn't have let me catch it to get the hook out. Good job on the puffer!

I find it kinda funny how the puffer fish was defensive the first few times the diver grabbed him to try and get a better angle at the hook then at the end the Puffer fish was basically 'Oh, you're trying to help. Take it out, i'll be good.'
