I’m a 42 year old American expat that’s been living in China for 14 years. I recently decided that I'd like to retire early abroad and I created this channel to share my journey of investing in high yield income stocks, ETFs, Closed end funds and other methods of creating passive income in order to be able to retire early abroad. I hope that in sharing my journey it may help you in some way achieve your passive income investing goals. Nothing on this channel is meant to be financial advice. This just my own personal retirement journey.

My issue is that these assets are losing value hand over fist. So you might well get $4k per year dividend a year but if your share price drops by the same amount there's no point.

The point is income. You get paid monthly for as long as own no matter what. You’ll get your original investment back very fast and then it’s just free cash after that for life

I cover 60 stocks on my channel, but I break them down based on your age. Dividend growth is more important the youger you are, current yield more important the older you are. High quality growers to hold long term are the key no mstter what though.

Yeah, Joseph Carlson is one of the highly regarded dividend growth investors on YT. Every time I see his portfolio, I think about how many times I could've retired on it with an income investing strategy rather than a divided growth strategy.

Do total yield for proper comparison. NAV is probably going up on those growth stocks while NAV plummets on those high yields.

I’ve done this before and showed complete transparency on it before I sold off the portfolio. Total return overall averaged about 8% but the things is you get the money now to use now instead of waiting

FYI if you claimed claimed back your burial $6300 investment, you wouldn’t keep receiving the $4.3k dividend. It would be 68% of this -$2.9k 🙏🏽

Hard to say. Nothing is permanent. Stuff that was “tried and true “ in the past don’t exist anymore so you can’t count on the past to predict the future.

The yearly estimate is not "booked", it's an estimate if the they continue paying the same dividend each month. But that's not what happens in the real world; you can see by their monthly div payment they fluctuates. And YMAX started in January 2024 . That's not enough time to base your expected income. You might make more money in the short term, and even long term do well. However both are speculative assumptions. I've seen where and how they invest. It's not original and others that have tried this have done well, but most failed. My advice from a long time investor: the market is strong and reaching highs every week. That translates to making money. Bit when it declines, and it always does, these High Yield Funds will bail because they will not be able to compete with less speculative stocks.

You get $12 800 from $13 000 investment on ULTY? Have naver seen this before, what type of strategy it is? Where is a catch?! Otherwise everybody would do that right, if there is not any catch and it is so simple you will have this div. payments "year after year after year like clockwork" (your words) Thanks for explanation
@TheDividendNomad

It’s paying 100% + dividend. That means after 1 year you get 100% of money back. After that you still own you got your money back and you still own they stock the keep paying you.

@@TheDividendNomad does not make sense to me. You can't have 100% return of your many back year over year without any catch... Also growth investing isn't for 3-5 years. If that person you mentioned has 20years horizont, he will have 10-15% dividend yield on those positions 🤘 Long term growth investing has great advantage 🤙

@@Kroky_InvestoraThe catch would be if the NAV keeps declining and the fund can no longer support the dividend. The broader criticisms are based on total returns it's not a better deal than just buying the underlying stock and that in a bear market they'll be destroyed. High yield investing using these synthetic covered call funds is risky, and not for everyone. But some of the funds have been impressive. I have a position in some, but only 10% of my US portfolio for the short term gains. There's a short track record, so we'll see.

These super-high yield ETFs are only a few months old and have only existed in an environment where they shine. As soon as the market turns against the strategy, the NAV will plummet. That means you would get "high" returns on an ever-decreasing amount of capital, eventually disappearing. The only way to counter that effect is to reinvest most of the dividend payout, which reduces the effective yield. It can work, but it is not the magic bullet people are claiming. High risk/high reward.
