Dividends from SCHD are typically taxed at the qualified dividend rate, which may be lower than ordinary income tax rates for many investors. However, the main focus for markets now is Nvidia, which has powered a large chunk of the S&P 500’s recent earnings. Nvidia’s stock, up more than 90% this year, rose 2.5% in New York on Monday, sending the Nasdaq 100 index to another record high. I'm still looking for companies to make additions to my $350K portfolio, to boost performance. Here for ideas...

A lot of folks downplay the role of advlsors until being burnt by their own emotions. I remember couple summers back, after my lengthy divorce, I needed a good boost to help my business stay afloat, hence I researched for licensed advisors and came across someone of utmost qualifications. My portfolio doesn’t just cater to dividend stocks. I hold $VFIAX (S&P 500 index fund) in my Roth IRA and $VTI (Total Stock Market ETF) in my taxable brokerage account. Two of my largest holdings. The individual dividend stock positions all complement the index holdings.

the best market strategy is to work with a credible investing coach. Since a while ago, I've been in touch with a coach, mostly because I lack the depth of understanding and mental toughness to deal with the ongoing market conditions. You lack the information necessary to succeed in a competitive market, not because you're doing anything wrong, but rather because of your lack of experience.

The thing to me is, if you invest and have other income outside of dividends then you will be able to live off dividends without selling. Which means you can pass that on to your kids which will give them a leg up in life. $52k dividends received in 2023.

The best course of action if you lack market knowledge is to ask a consultant or investing coach for guidance or assistance. Speaking with a consultant helped me stay afloat in the market and grow my portfolio to about 65% since January, even though I know it sounds obvious or generic. I believe that is the most effective way to enter the business at the moment.

Like Warren Buffet said, dividends are only good if the business you're investing into can't make good use of that capital. So, if you're trying to invest in businesses with actual growth, looking at dividends is a waste of time. Why are you investing into a company if they're returning capital to you because they think you can make better use if it than they can. It's not much different from bond investing. The way I see it, if you have a $1 million at some point, that'd be enough to create a portfolio that would pay you between 50k - 70k in dividend income.

I would think that a major benefit of dividend investing is that calculating portfolio size needed is not relevant. We don't care about the value of the portfolio. We care about the sustainable income it pays. As you invest you can gradually see the income rise as you invest more and pull the retirement trigger when it's high enough regardless of the market sentiment.
@eloign7147
@eloign7147 Ай бұрын
Calculating the portfolio size needed is very relevant. - How else do you know how much to contribute?
@rogerwheelers4322
@rogerwheelers4322 Ай бұрын
By calculating how much additional income the contributions produce and estimating how that income rises. the capital value will fluctuate up and down over time so the amount of income new additions give you varies. so capital value being high with a market yielding 2% is no worse for retirement than the same portfolio at a different timepoints where the capital value is half and so the yield is 4%. so long as the yield is sustainable in real terms the capital value being half does not matter. its the same income stream at a different moment of low market sentiment vs high market sentiment.

5-10 years isn't enough to see the real power of compound interest. You could set up your kids if you have any. You do the first 5-10 years then they do the next 20... Investing should be taught in high-school.

I buy for income not hopeful growth. I am old, I will admit that. I get 87.55 a month avg on $10,500. I don't pay above $25 a share. It would be higher but I put a lot in tax free stocks even though the interest is a bit lower. Usually I won't buy a stock unless it gives me at least 7%. I just started compounding my interest back in now.

Hi there! I don't know if you have made a video about this or not, but I was wondering about what it would look like if you invest $10,000 in 2 closed end funds, BST and BCAT, and reinvest the dividends over 1, 10, 20, and 30 years. Share prices are pretty steady and cheap, and they compound quickly due to monthly dividends and high yields

A lot of folks downplay the role of advisors until being burnt by their own emotions. I remember couple summers back, after my lengthy divorce, I needed a good boost to help my business stay afloat, hence I researched for licensed advisors and came across someone of utmost qualifications. She's helped grow my reserve notwithstanding inflation, from $275k to $850k.

So you are basically projecting a double digit growth for these companies in the coming 30 years. That's a highly unlikely scenario for any company, let alone companies that re pretty big already. I'm not saying it's a bad portfolio but the numbers are extremely rosy and will set you up for big dissapointment.

I'd like to see the yearly detailed breakdowns as to how you get your values. When I put these value in an EXCEL spreadsheet, I can get close for the first year totals, but after that the differences get wider and wider. You can't assume these rates of increase for the entire time frame of the investments, if you did, you'd end up with a dividend percentage greater than 100% after a few years (for the later examples in the video). I also don't see how the totals between years 20 and 30 can be a full order of magnitude more. Yes I know about the rule of 72, but for that type of increase, I'd have to have an dividend percentage of about 25.9% EACH YEAR from years 20 - 30. In other words, I question your results.

The company growth is what funds the dividend growth, especially for a REIT. Companies like Lowes and HomeDepot can increase their payout ratio, but that is definitely limited as too high means they no longer have anything left to invest for the future.
