SCHD has a proven formula and its focus is not Share price appreciation and I think a lot of people miss that. Personally I'm more than happy for the fund to be below average on share price appreciation as long as the dividend growth remains strong, that is the goal isn't it? An increasing dividend that we hope to live off. Also its 100+ companies, for me its my base and the stocks I like that are not included or under weight for me, I buy personally.

Problem is dividend growth is usually linked to share price growth. If stock is growing share price will as well. If it slow down, so is total return

Everyone focusing on them removing AVGO is not focusing on their formula. The overall goal of the formula is dividend growth entities who are priced fairly or undervalued. This is why AVGO was cut the price surged so much that the div yield shrank drastically. There is nothing that says AVGO wouldn't be added back next year (or another future year) should there be an appropriate pullback.

I am probably in the minority but I like this mix a little better. Still too heavy in Pharma IMO though. Still one of my favorite funds regardless.

Lol these people are crazy when you invest in a etf your not investing in the company's that the etf holds your investing in the strategy or the methodology of the etf. To invest in individual companies the etfs holds is a disaster 😂. Invest in etfs beliefs and strategies instead of the companies and you'll never be disappointed.

AVGO and all the AI stocks are overvalued. A lot of dividends stocks are cheap.

For all SCHD holders that are ticked off about AVGO getting kicked out, don't buy an ETF. Just buy the individual stocks you want. This is a passively managed ETF. AVGO no longer meets SCHDs requirements to be included.

$SCHD Q1 dividend announced: $0.6110 2.4% increase from last March and the highest March (Q1) payout ever. Today is the ex-dividend date and the payout is Monday, March 25

I’m still all in on this fund. The reason I’m in SCHD is not because of its individual stocks. It’s the way they choose them.

If you are a young person, SP500 index is a better investment than SCHD, you will have higher gains and faster compounding. SCHD is more suitable for a retired person, or someone nearing retirement age, my 2 cents, however I do see why the fund is attractive to people of all ages

I understand the point of this post, but I'd disagree a bit as with SCHD you will continue to grab more shares along the way at a faster rate. It honestly depends on your goals with your investments. I for example have no desire to ever sell my stocks and am building my portfolio so I can pass it down to my kids. I will be able to live off my dividends when I am older without having to sell any stocks, which I can then roll over to my kids. With the S&P to live off that investment, I will need to sell some which then will lower my children's overall value. If the goal is for you specifically to live off them, I'd agree...but if your goal is to pass the portfolio to the next generation than SDHD is the better choice.

I fully agree with you. But SCHD has one advantage compared to S&P 500: In a down market, it outperforms VOO or SPY.

SCHD outperformed VTV over 5 and 10 years and is very low cost. Just had bad luck this year. Many of us have a boatload in the S&P500 index in 401k's, so not having apple, Microsoft etc as top holdings (if at all) in SCHD is a good thing. Still have the bulk of my $500k portfolio in SCHD.

When I filmed the video the new allocations weren’t official, so it’s possible the website has finalized the new allocations.

Does the inclusion of PFE as a top 10 position of SCHD validate the quality of the stock?

I would assume no. Disclosure: I like and own a lot of PFE. The SCHD decision is based on ratios (objective analytics reflecting previous performance), which is a clue but not a conclusion. Suggestion: if you like the SCHD selection criteria, take PFE inclusion as a clue but look into additional details. Pharmaceuticals have their own peculiarities like patent expirations and pipelines for new drugs that are beyond just the ratios. Then additional schtuff like revenue sources; e.g., dependency on sales in China, on which trade agreements may have an influence. Etc.

@mathieuk119 That means then all the companies in it meet the qualified dividend criteria then. Also if we choose to reinvest the dividend payouts all the time for repurchase there will always be portion that is non qualified because it needs to be own for over 1 year before it is qualified for tax benefits is my understanding.

AVGO is vastly overpriced. I am glad it was removed, there will be mean reversion at some point. That doesn't mean it's a great company but it does mean that perhaps you should take some profits and roll it into something paying you a bit more instead of holding onto capital appreciation. Not you personally (the person making the video) but the audience. If the price does not come down and it stays elevated then adding to the position is buying a weak dividend while you wait for that dividend to hopefully grow that could take years to amount to even a 3-4% dividend.

How did you feel about it in 2022 when VOO was down 22% and SCHD was only down 6%? You are comparing 2 products with different goals. If you want to see VOOs lunch eaten, have a 50/50 combo of SCHD and VGT. That has beaten the S&P 500 every year for the last 11 or 12 years. There are a variety of ways to win.
