Serial Phlebotomy is main stay of treatment for polycythemia vera, hydroxyurea can be added for patients at high risk of thrombosis

3:02:57 according to the First Aid, phlebotomy is actually used for polycythemia vera. According to UWorld Q,ID 2883, Serial phlebotomy is the mainstay of treatment for PV; it creates a relative iron deficiency and reduces hematocrit levels to normal range.

Phlebotomy is indicated for ALL patients with polycythemia vera. Other indications include porphyria cutanea tarda and hemochromatosis (as rightly said in the video).

Great video! Small correction at 2:10:30-nephrotic syndrome as the etiology of ascites presents with SAAG < 1.1 because serum albumin is low. SAAG >1.1 is portal HTN or CHF

Absolutely amazing review, but i had a question regarding one of the concepts. You mention that AV fistulas present as pulsatile masses, yet uworld states that it's aneurysms that are more likely to present as pulsatile masses, while AV fistula would present with no mass and a continuous bruit. Seeing as the uworld chart is more recent, should we go with that on the exam? Thanks in advance!
