Nice review! These AIs don't make 'trick moves' though, they assume their opponent is like themselves, so alphago maybe missed the refutation of its own move and thought it was good! :)

It is not divine, it is human. And that is perhaps the one reason why it worked

For the show Hikaru no Go, I understand that they simply used real archived pro matches for Sai's games. Naturally Lee Sedol could win against those players. If Alphago's archived matches had been available at the time the manga was written, the authors would have used Alphago's moves as Sai's moves. That would have been great I think.

Lee Sedol is a hero of mine, I live in the Republic of Ireland, and I would love to be able to buy a Go Board. But you cannot get them in My Country. I hope Lee wins. Peace.

no such thing as "bugs" on a neural net AI once its already trained and running, neural nets learn to play just like humans would, they're based on and imitate the human brain neuron chain reactions after all. So basically the nn didnt expect move 78 (as it evald it as a 1/10k probability move), so allowed it, and later didnt find the "solution" because in its 95-depth search it evaluated that solution as an overall loss of the game, no matter by how little points. But yeah thats not a bug, thats just the result of AI not being perfect, and in a game like GO with more board configurations than atoms in the universe, GO might never get solved thus AI will never be perfect at it, thats the reason why neural net AI is even used for it. But this binds it to its neural net: Its just like an extremely strong human player, always having a chance to lose if facing another extremely strong player, or another extremely strong AI

Lee may be stronger than Sai, but Sai doesn't have a body so he can't get tired which is a big advantage. It is the same with AI. Software is the ghost in the machine.

With all the respect to Lee Sedol he really doesn't understand AI... It is not the first time he talks about how humans can still surpass AI, which is really ridicules. AI isn't only already far stronger than humans, but the gap will only grow larger and larger. There is no "black box", there is a program which is able to calculate things in an inhuman way and learn from all the games humanity has ever played and draw 'conclusions' from them far more perfectly than a pro could ever dream of.

With all due respect to your experience, I don't really believe beating AI is as complicated as everyone's making it out to be. I think we've set ourselves in our ways of how the game's played, and AI is taking advantage of that. A lot of the moves AI pulls have already been discussed, and ditched as "bad" ideas many years ago. With every advantage one has in life, one also has a disadvantage tied to it. And the two usually balance each other out. AIs flaw is its strength. That's just my opinion though.
