Basics of Sikhi

Күн бұрын

Diwali is the festival of lights. Once a year, the entire world comes together to light divas (candles) in remembrance of good conquering bad. The night sky is also lit up with beautiful fireworks. This amazing short animation shows why people from the Sikh faith celebrate Diwali, and how it came to be known as Bandi Chhor Divas.
Interesting Fact: the actual robe that Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji wore to free the fifty two kings can still be seen today at Gurdwara Chola Sahib, Ghudani Kalan, Punjab.
The story starts with the sixth Sikh Guru, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, who resided in Sri Amritsar Sahib. Instigated by corrupt ministers, the Guru was invited to Delhi to meet the Mughal emperor, Jahangir. Upon their arrival, the Guru spent much time with the emperor and even saved their life from a lion attack!
The emperor’s ministers had failed to make the Guru look bad, so a minister named Chandu bribed an astrologer to tell the emperor that he had been cursed! The emperor was then told that the only way to remove the curse was to imprison the Guru for forty days in Gwalior.
Although Guru Ji knew that this was all a hoax, they agreed to go to prison, knowing that they had a different task to fulfil.
Watch this beautifully animated Sakhi (true story) on why Sikhs celebrate Diwali.
Upholding the historical accuracy of this Sakhi (true story) and depicting it in a respectful way is of the utmost importance to us.
The following reputable sources were used to make this animation:
1. Gurbilas Paatshahi 6 - Bhai Bhagat Singh Ji (student of Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh Ji)
2. Sri Gurpratap Sooraj Granth - Mahakavi Bhai Santokh Singh Ji
3. Twarikh Guru Khalsa/Sri Guru Panth Prakash - Giani Gian Singh Ji
4. Mehma Prakash - Bhai Saroop Daas Ji Bhalla
5. Gur Bhaari - Principal Satbir Singh Ji
6. Mahan Kosh - Bhai Kahn Singh Ji Nabha
7. Deepmala Katha - Sant Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale
The depictions of Guru Ji are artistic interpretations which have not been animated and are still images only. None of the figures in the story have been voiced. Only the story is being narrated.
May this animation instil the true message of Diwali in our hearts and help us to implement the teachings of Sikhi into our lives.

I grew up in a Christian family but I'm not religious. I come from eastern Europ and live in UK for 17 years. the religion that impressed me is Shikism. I was once at Leamimgtin Spa and saw the beautiful temples of Shiks there. I really wanted to get in but wasn't sure what I could 🤷‍♂️

I had this idea that Sikhism unlike other religions is free from mythical stories and also heard that our gurus didn't believe in showing "karamat". Well, this is a capability of human mind that we are good at imagining things and without these "karamats", people don't believe that someone is special. Diwali diyan mubarakan 🙏

It is actually pretty debated among many different sects of Sikhi, whereas as some break it down as metaphors. In this one, They didn’t literally transform, but they essentially became “someone else” or acted out of their normal character, showing their warrior side. This makes more since to me when you analyze the core teachings of Guru Nanak. My friend runs a podcast called “the Sikh Renaissance” where he touches on this subject quite a bit. Luckily, he has been a guiding hand for me in my path to understanding the teachings of the Gurus and becoming closer to waheguru. I have even been learning punjabi

Beautiful. Wish your brilliant team could do more animations to keep the young ones glued on. The Emperor dreaming of the lions with the grace of Guruji tends to hold more true rather than the two beloved Sikhs changing forms as there is no room in Sikhi for magical powers. 🙏

Guru Gobind Singh ji also fought early battles against 22 pahari kings who were with mughals and were very jealous of Sikhs and Guru . They used to attack anandpur to kill Guru but they lost all battles . When they could not win a battle against them , they joined hands with Mughals and the sikh-mughal wars started . Raja hari Chand was killed by Guru in the first battle of guru gobind Singh ji against pahari rajas. And Chandu part has been written by all writers whether non sikh or sikh writer . Guru sahib refused to marry his son to his daughter as he spoke very badly against the Guru . So Guru Refused knowing his Ill behaviour . He decided to take revenge from the Guru and as he was a courtier of Jahangir , he told to jahangir false things about the Guru and put false allegations on him , Jahangir other muslim courtiers also wanted to arrest Guru as many Hindus and Muslims were becoming desciples of guru . Jahangir was a lailag by ears . What he listened , he believed and then calling Guru at the court and keep him in prison , he ordered his courtiers and Chandu , what they wanted to do , they could do and himself went to Kashmir .

Historical Sikhs have called it Diwali. For instance Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh issued a decree saying that sikhs should come to Amritsar for celebration of Diwali.

Good video and truth need to be spread because many Sikhs all over the world has been celebrating Diwali like Hindus without knowing Sikhs celebrate Bandi Chor Divas and other communities too think Sikhs celebrate Diwali as Hindus, love Hindus but Sikhs should know the purpose Sikhs celebrate Bandi Chor Divas and not Diwali
