@@cr7akki who gave the name hinduism to that religion that existed ? Hindu is not a name of any religion, it was only established recently. There was no name to religion before. That is why it is called sanaatan. I have read manuscripts of both religions and therefore saying it. But i would also recommend you to read about both and then comment. You can start with a basic Google search like how old is jainism ? Etc...

@@cr7akki go and read Rig veda, it has mentions of jainism. There was no name to religion so you won't find proper jain word. In Nepal we have a bit different way of celebrating diwali and its called Tihar in Nepal. Celebration represents social growth during human evolution, : i) first day bird crows are worshiped, thanking it as it was used as messenger during ancient time, ii) second day, dogs are worshiped thanking them for being closest animal friend of mankind since from the time of human evolution, iii) third day mother cows are worshiped who provides us milk and are compared as mothers as they give milk, such practice started since when human pet cows and drank milk from them, on the very same day in the evening goddess Laxmi is worshiped decorating house with lights iv) fourth day OX is worshiped as they helped human plough field for farming since the time from when human started farming v) on the fifth day, which is the last day and the most especial one is known as Bhai Tika( Brother Festival), where sisters in the family put seven colored tika on the forehead of theirs brother and pray for good health and prosperity of their brothers and also pray to god of death (Yamaraj) so that untimely death will not take their brothers. This day strengths bonding and love between brothers and sisters further more. The seven colored tika represents seven color of sunlight and represents internal spiritual strength.

I won't say all but ya v respect n become part of it. But technically not everyones festival it's highly concentrated to North Indian hundus..n I said north Indian cos south does remember n have a two day holiday but it doesn't celebrate for eg in South the new year according to Kerala or Malayalaii tradition is during the celebration of Onam if I am not mistaken ie with the harvest of new crops..so no it's not everyone's celebration but does everyone take part in it ya.. Another eg is Christmas your celebration no but u take part in it n do enjoy with other Christians.. Similarly Eid I do celebrate with my Muslim frds n have biryani at his house but it's not my festival but I do take part in it with him at his House.... oh btw I do celebrate Diwali with my frds too..

Hinduism: Diwali is a festival of lights: Diwali literally means a row of lamps. 'Deepa' - means light or "lamp" 'Aavali' - means a "row" So a 'diya' is centralized in Diwali which has always been made up of recyclable material like clay. Religious aspect: celebration of victory of good over evil; light over darkness. Celebration of return of Lord Ram who had slain the evil. To celebrate his return and make it easier for him to find the road back, people lit diyas. People were happy to have their idealistic King return who never cared for power, possessions or self-interests. He lived for others and always put his kingdom first. The idea to spread the light of positivity in the world despite the darkness of negativity. Some worship Goddess of wealth and treat the day as beginning of new financial year. Clear off old debts and start afresh. This calls for prosperity and fortune by lighting their homes and keeping the doors open to welcome the Goddess. South India Hinduism: the day God Krishna overcame and destroyed the evil demon King Narakasura. In yet another symbolic victory of good over evil. Scientific reason: During this time of the year when the sun, earth and the moon are aligned in such a way that there is a change in the climate which leads to colder darker months ahead. There is also higher gravitational pull which can cause increase in tides. Multiplication of insects which destroy crops (as this is the season for some regions to harvest new crops) and also cause health problems. When you light lamps they are attracted to those lights and fall into the lamps. The oil traditionally used to light the diyas is called Iluppa Ennei which has some medicinal properties. The oil burned during diwali doesnt produce much pollution. We also clean houses thoroughly so that insects are reduced and to welcome guests into the home. Fireworks came much later into the tradition which represented also light but this is harmful for the environment and should be moderated. Jainism: Anniversay or liberation of Mahavira's (founder of modern Jainism) soul. It is celebrated same time as Hindu Diwali. For Jains, it mark's the end of the year and celebrates the achievement of moksha (nirvana/freedom) by Mahavir. Dipalikaya means light leaving the body thus people light lamps to mark the occasion. Sikhism: The foundation of The Golden Temple in 1577 was laid on Diwali. Second reason, Bandi Chhor Divas. "Day of liberation" (Prisoner release day). On the day of Diwali, the Guru Hargobind (Sixth Guru) released from jail by the Mughal Emperor Jahangir who also freed 52 other Hindu kings with the Guru. It is celebrated in a similar manner by lighting homes and Gurdwaras such as Golden Temple to welcome the Guru home. Celebration of a Guru who lived for others and risked his own life to save others. Wish you a Happy Diwali for whichever reason you choose to celebrate, whether that is end of evil; illuminating the darkness; harvesting crops; celebrating liberation; attaining moksha or the time for self-reflection. Let us light that inner 'diya' to find the purpose and live like Lord Ram or Guru Hargobind who lived in the service of others to give happiness, prosperity and peace. 🕯💡🔥🎇🎆

Fun Fact: Diwali marks the beginning of a new year only for some parts of the country. The New Year day varies with regions, based on the Hindu calendar followed there. It's quite complicated. I am from the Eastern part of India and our new years usually falls during Spring, around mid-April.
