Glue trick....I found this to work really well. When you glue boards, sometimes they pieces slide out of place. Use a pinch of salt when you glue boards and the salt will hold the pieces together without slippage

Did you put a support rail or legs down the middle? I am thinking about this design for my king. Thanks.
@bhupendra1353 жыл бұрын
@@MPR58, I substantially modified this design to make my bed super sturdy. One thing I did was use 2-6 without trimming those. This gives a full 6' strength. Then I used two 2-4s (along the foot to the headboard) to give extra support to the mattress. In the end, both these 2-4s have base support (just used the same 2-4s and give support on the floor) at their center. The rest of the model is the same. It took me just 10 hours on Sunday to get it ready. I can show you my design if we can get in touch somehow.

Hi girls ! Merry Christmas an happy new year . I’m disabled an over sixty now soon to be sixty four in fact but love to watch you girls build beautiful things an have wanted to learn to build beautiful furniture an other items myself . I just in fact ordered myself a beginners woodworking book . But the most awesome thing is my husband just gave me a Kreg jig system as one of my Christmas gifts from him this morning . It is so funny because my whole family has been teasing me for the last year about me wanting one . It’s so funny because no one has ever known me in my entire life to ever ask for any tools till now . But I fully plan to learn to build things an use this as much as possible ! Just thought you gals might get a smile out of this story . But I’m going to learn to build things an use it an other tools . Just wanted you to know you’ve inspired me . Even at my age ! What a deal .

One thing I did notice so far...Your framing lumber is way nicer than mine. I had a heck of a time with the posts during glue up. I love the look of the finished product. So solid! I don't have a wood shop though. Maybe I'll see if anyone can help me build it. I would like to make one suggestion for you guys though: Put some acoustic treatment in your shop, where you are recording. You are audible, but the echo is extreme and somewhat distracting. You could put up some cheap studio foam around on the walls and ceiling, or DIY something a little nicer ;) Either way, I think even a little bit would go a long way to improve your production quality. Pocket holes for the simplicity of it. However, as I saw on another video, unless you put lots of pocket screws on each corner on the long run they may start to fail holding the frame together. Definitely using or adding bed rail brackets is a better option, specially with a big mattress queen size.

Cool vid and the finished bed came out looking nice. My concern is the pocket hole screws holding the rails to the legs. Seems like ever since kreg made a diy jig, it's pocket holes for everything and they do have their limits. Traditionally for hiding hardware on cabinet faces or other more decorative pieces, not as load bearing. I have no doubt they'd hold up short term but that looks like just a butt joint at the legs and rails. The screws are holding the full weight of the mattress and sleeper, over time they're likely to bend, sag, pull out. If they come loose and the bed begins racking they'll be under even more stress. At the very least surface mount bed rail hooks would be a better option imo.

Please note, ladies: A Twin XL mattress is 79.5" - 80" long; width or depth s/b 38.5". THICKNESS must be known when you build a custom bed frame for it. So: a Twin XtraLong and a California King have different lengths, the CalKing, a different width as well.

I'm new to the channel and love your sense of humor :). The bed is gorgeous, thanks for posting! I'm confused though, at the beginning the supply list listed wood, two saws and a drill (if I remember correctly). But then the video also uses wood glue, nailing gun, clamps and the pocket holes that appear from nowhere..... and doesn't show the saws being used. I'm really a beginner at this and would love to see the entire process and full supply list. Hello! I am getting ready to go and buy supplies next weekend to build this bed. I am so excited as this is my first try at building a piece of furniture, but I have a few questions. Instead of joining the 3 boards together to make it thicker, Can I use 6"x6"x8" boards to use as the legs? Also if I wanted to add a flat piece of I guess plywood? for over the slats for a memory foam mattress to lay on what size and thickness would be correct? I hope you see these questions :) Thank you, Amanda
@shanty2chic5 жыл бұрын
Amanda Petrisin hi! You can buy 6x6 is expensive and it can’t be cut with a 12” miter saw very easily. You can lay a sheet of plywood. It would just need to be the width and length of the inside of the frame!
