Hey Guys!! Here is a super easy basic 4 ingredient Hair and Body Lotion! I did add a preservative and essential oil but these are optional. All you really need to make a lotion is water, oil, and an emulsifying wax. That's it 😊

✨DIY Hair & Body Lotion
Ingredients | Measurements (g = grams)(Made 8 fl. oz) | Links
(The images in the video show less than what I actually used)
- 75% Distilled Water | 258.55 g
- 12.5% Jojoba Oil | 32.32 g | amzn.to/2tlwKsF
- 7% BTMS-50 | 27.22 g | amzn.to/2N2IUT7 (Amazon link btms-25)
- 5% Mango Butter | 20.41 g | amzn.to/2SrT6Uh
Optional:
0.5% Preservative: Liquid Germall Plus | 1.70 g | amzn.to/2X4iH8o
A few drops essential oil: Benzion Resin | amzn.to/2GnzPAU
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Please refrigerate this product if you do not add a preservative. I know this may not be ideal because the lotion will be cold. However, lotion is 75 to 85% water which means mold and bacteria. Please be safe with what you are putting on your skin. You may be using all natural ingredients but what is the point if your product is filled with harmful bacteria and mold 😳😅 Make sure to check your product before each use for odor or color change. Throw out immediately if you have any suspicions. You can make smaller batches if necessary to reduce waste.

This is awesome. As you said there is a lot of room to add more great ingredients. Thank you so much. As Btms50 is pricey I usually use 7 or 8 percent combine emulsify wax and Cetyl Alcohol and use BtMS50 when making condition or shampoo. Keep on the great work. Thank you

I know I replied to the other comment on the other video, but I also wanted to repost it here just in case someone else needs the information. Hey! Thank you! I find my products from all over. Sometimes amazon, Lotioncrafters, Etsy.com, Brambleberry, Oslove Organics, and more. Also, I test my measurements out to see what works and I change them accordingly. IT is really trail and error. I use this tool from www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/Calculators/Batch_Size_Calculator.aspx to make sure my measurement are balanced. It also helps with converting of measurements and percentages. I hope this helps.

Thanks for sharing, and I'm glad surgery went well. Just wondering how this feels on the hair? BTMS-50 @6% seems like alot.. Some people use that percentage for their diy deep conditioner.
@YayaDIYCreations
@YayaDIYCreations 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! First thing, I am heavy handed in general lol! Second thing, the usage percentage range can vary from 2% to 10% or more if necessary. Since I wanted it to be used for hair and body, I added 6%. My hair is super thick, porous, and soaks up conditioners; so I pile on the BTMS-50 because it is a great conditioning agent. And yes, for some DIY conditioners, I will actually use 8% to 10% or more lol. Works fine for my hair. You can definitely alter this to fit your needs. 😊 P.s. Most of my creations are me testing and experimenting and sharing what I have learned. I am definitely still learning but I hope this helps.

I made this, but with aloe vera gel in place of water. My mixture came out curdled, for lack of better words. It's as if the oil/butter phase cooled too quickly when I blended it all together. Do you have a solution to avoid that? The lotion itself is great, but its appearance is not 😅

@stevenhoyt89
@stevenhoyt89 4 жыл бұрын
Important to know that bacteria is invisible, you lotion will be dangerous to use before you can see or smell any changes. It is always best to use a broad spectrum preservative.
@YayaDIYCreations
@YayaDIYCreations 4 жыл бұрын
Steven Hoyt This is why I used one, but I have to recognize that some people do not have access to or want to use a preservative. Even though I recommend it, I can’t ignore that. So, I tell them to refrigerate if they decide not too. It’s not best, but it is better than leaving it out lol.

Can I use a regular mixer? Also I noticed that each time I add the water phase to the oil phase it’s not as creamy and smooth as yours. Mines always tends to clump up. Then end results is the same. But I could not get it so smooth and creamy as a result when is difficult to bottle them. Please help what am I doing wrong? Also I notice quite a few air pockets in the final product.
@YayaDIYCreations
@YayaDIYCreations 5 жыл бұрын
There could be multiple reasons for this. The biggest factor could be your mixer (stand or hand mixer).They will not emulsify the mixture immediately which is why you are probably getting clumps at first. It may take much longer for the mixer to emulsify the mixture completely. For this reason I would recommend an immersion blend vs a stand or hand mixer. But it is possible to use one just not ideal. When it comes to mixing water with oil, a number of factors could mess up the mixture. These factors may include temperature, preservatives that destabilize the mixture, over-blending, the tools you use, etc. You may want to check the temperature of the water and oil phase before mixing. The closer they are in temperature the better. I also switch up adding water to oil and oil to water depending on the product and/or by which phase has a higher percentage. Example: For this lotion, I had a higher percentage of water so I added the oil to the water. I do not always do this but it may help. Please let me now if you have anymore questions and I hope this helps. 🙂
@Geggie1000
@Geggie1000 5 жыл бұрын
Yaya thank you. I will take your suggestions into consideration. Even before using any tools my oil phase will begin clumping. But I notice yours was smooth throughout. At what temperature should I heat them up to?
@YayaDIYCreations
@YayaDIYCreations 5 жыл бұрын
Saleshia Pascall Ahh I see. So the oil phase is clumping. I heat my oil phase on low heat for about 30 minutes until it is completely melted through. The last I checked it was approximately 146ish degrees Fahrenheit. But this can greatly vary depending on the amount of your oil phase and the ingredients in your oil phases. Some butters and/or waxes may take longer or a higher temperature to melt. I have waited 40+ minutes before for my oil phase to melt.
@Geggie1000
@Geggie1000 5 жыл бұрын
Yaya based on what you said, I think the main thing that’s causing the clumping is the equipment used and the temperature before mixing.
@YayaDIYCreations
@YayaDIYCreations 5 жыл бұрын
@@Geggie1000 I would start there and test out other factors if this problem persist.

Hey, I did not take a natural product making class. I create most of my creations for fun and I am learning along the way. I share my creations and knowledge in hopes to help others who may have the same concerns as I do. Most of my knowledge comes from testing, trail and error, research, and inspiration. I try to strive for natural products but I can't say they are solely that (especially when I add preservatives). I hope to take a class one day to improve, but since this is only a hobby; I don't have the time as of yet. 🙂
