In this video, I rent a mini excavator from Home Depot to dig 20 footing holes for the pier and beam foundation in the Canyon Lake, TX. Things got absolutely crazy when I started using the excavator!

You need to square the machine to your digging path. Get your tracks parralel to the digging path with the machine centered on the hole. Put the blade on the rear of the machine and lower it.

Gotta give you credit, you would be able to get so much more done if you weren't filming, having to move the camera, get the shots and angles you want etc. Awesome DD !!

I love the energy! In hindsight, would you still use the mini excavator, or just a gas powered post hole digger?

I’d use an excavator with a jackhammer bit.

Man you’re courageous getting that mini excavator, I always thought they wouldn’t be that difficult but it seems like it’s a little more complicated than I thought! Well thankfully nothing bad happened and you got plenty of holes dug! Is that some sort of plug-in you used for the text at the beginning of your video? It’s real neat.

Hey! Sorry for taking awhile to write back. Just now saw your comment. Yeah, if I could rent the mini excavator again, I’d probably have a jackhammer to break the rock when it comes up. Then I would finish digging the footings with the excavator . But yeah, I survived. Haha. I made the opening text in Canva.

How many footings total did you dig for the 40x30 home?

20 footings for the house, 4 footings for the back deck and 4 footings for the front deck. All 2 feet deep and wide. Yes, sir!👍
