with water drip-off, I'd add a small U before the box, so as not to get water inside. Thank you for the video though, these are the drones I was looking for.

well, the goal of my channel has always been to educate people on what it will take to do a project so they can make an informed decision on whether or not to tackle a project themselves. You may want to consider hiring a helper for the attic part.

The outlet box on the soffit, where did you find or how did you make it?

It's just a single gang pop-in box. you can buy them at pretty much any hardware store. Here's a link to them at lowes. www.lowes.com/pd/CARLON-1-Gang-Blue-Plastic-Old-Work-Standard-Rectangular-Wall-Electrical-Box/50046395

Just came across this video. Is this method code compliant? I thought you couldn't use Romex to wet or damp locations which a box in the soffit is considered so by NEC

This is one of those highly debated topics that often is left open to the authority having jurisdiction. I will say that homes I've seen built recently still have the electricians wiring exterior outlets and soffit plugs with Romex. However, running Romex outside the structure even in conduits has been red-tagged by inspectors. hence the use of THHN inside the conduit bodies. your best bet would be to reach out to inspectors in your area before building if you have questions.

@@HowitsdoneHandyman unfortunately all inspectors are different and some understand that it's not feasible to use UF or THWN for those runs but NEC is very specific that this is a code violation. Now, everyone does it and like I said, I'm not running 100ft of UF just for that box. Kinda crazy. The wires inside Romex are actually jacketed for wet environments but it's not specified on the individual jacketing..

@@mihneaciupagea3362 ahh, well now that I understand what you are referring to I would have to disagree. Since the box I used is cut into the soffit and the wire is run in the ceiling it would be in the attic and not a wet location. Still, the cover and devices used for the box would need to be weatherproof as the underside of the soffit would likely be considered a damp location. With what you talking about UF cable would be required for any exterior lights mounted to the ceilings as well such as a covered porch. Again, if you are unsure ask the AHJ.

What size bit is that you used to drill the holes for the connector?
@HowitsdoneHandyman
@HowitsdoneHandyman 2 жыл бұрын
I used a 7/8" Hole saw for drilling the holes the 1/2" connectors fit into.

FYI if you're using a 3/4" inch pipe and connectors you'll want to use a 1 1/8" Hole saw.
