This DIY was done purely because I saw a similar video with a bridge made from glass, and I wanted to do a smaller version made with clear pvc piping.

The materials I used for the bridge: 50mm pvc pipe, 4 x 90 degree pvc elbow joints. Aquarium safe silicone, a saw, fine sanding paper, pipe braces and a knife
The materials I used for the corner filter pump: An old corner filter (take out all the inner parts), Filter pad, a pond pump (60 liter per hour). larger piping that fits onto the pump (about 40cm long), a drill (To drill a hole into the plastic corner filter), an old spray bar that came extra with a canister filter from my other tank, and a few suction cups and zip ties.

I once ran a 20ft tube to connect two 200+ gal tanks in two separate rooms (using vacuum pumps in drop ceiling) and taught some elephant nose fish to travel from room to room. My salamander also learned to use it. fun stuff. Anyone new trying this type of thing, remember to match the tank heights.

Instead of messing around with trying to remove air from the pipes you just buy yourself 2 x threaded pipe end joiners and use those on both ends of the pipe. Turn the water bridge upside down, fill it up with water, screw on caps on both ends and then lift the whole thing into both tanks, once both ends are submerged just unscrew the caps. No air, no nothing to worry about, also makes it really easy for future water changes, just screw the caps back on, lift the bridge out and off you go.

Reason for the none-return valves to suck the air out is that micro bubbles accumulate over time and to suck the air out now and again like that is fairly easy. I added the valve in an update video. I like your idea and used it on a second bridge in my pond. 👊

Thanks man, yeah it surprized me also! The brittlenose uses it often and the snail got the hang of it. The other fish are still a bit uncomfortable using it. Can you Imaging having a tank next to your pond (no sunstrate in it, with good filtration) and a setup like this where you can view your pond fish!

Taken care of.. Oh that`s so cool.. I was talking to my hubby about making another pond and connecting them with a little river.. wonder if this would work That is so cool! I love it.. very cool. I bet they will be using it lots when they get used to it. You cold make one side the kitchen.. and they have to come over to eat lol
@TheWildWondersSA
@TheWildWondersSA 7 жыл бұрын
The pond - river idea is an awesome idea to get "fresh" water in, but you might lose some fish, but if it is a water "feature river" that could definitely work! I really like the idea of creating a "kitchen" for them, that will definitely work. :)
@DebTim
@DebTim 7 жыл бұрын
The kitchen would show just how smart they are. I have a fry grow out tank.. the way it sat at the time I always fed in the one corner. They always went to that one corner anytime I was around.. they are smart! I have the water fall recycling the water through a filter system but it would be cool to have a river. My cat fin killed a gold fish today and I know it would be too easy for him to eat them all with a river. :(
@TheWildWondersSA
@TheWildWondersSA 7 жыл бұрын
Fish are much smarter than what people believe! What if you made the banks of the river a little bit more inaccessible? Making them steep or at an angle where the cat cant reach to the waters edge?

Thanks man, yeah that is a valid point. Was my first attempt at a water bridge, and I was super curious to see if it worked or not. All fish are doing well, and most are in breeding tanks now. Hey awesome stuff , i got a question about the water bridge , I did the same set up as yours i am running a canister filter in Tank A and it spray bar in the Tank B to cycle the water , my problem is it only flows one way and the current is too strong for the fish to swim. I even turned the filter off and it just flows one direction From tank A to B the current is to strong , How do i get a slow water flow in the bridge, Thanks heaps . P.s The Spring bok rugby team are awesome, from an All Black Supporter . Cheers Bro
@TheWildWondersSA
@TheWildWondersSA 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Albert, thanks for the comment. I would get a splitter just after the pipe leaves the canister filter, and allow the one pipe to flow back into the first tank. That way the flow is reduced and the cycle will be not as strong. Alternatively you can get a flow adjuster before the spray bar (But that will hamper the amount of water that needs to flow through your filter). Hope that helps.

En so baie luister nie.
@TheWildWondersSA
@TheWildWondersSA 7 жыл бұрын

Ek sal my volgende video maak oor dit.

in germany we have goldfish outside in the pond all year, if its not all frozen to the ground it is usually no problem ? does your complete pond freeze?
@TheWildWondersSA
@TheWildWondersSA 7 жыл бұрын
Jonas Z nope no freezing at all, but we have massive temperature shifts in a short period of time. From 25 degrees in day time to 5 at night, and I have lost fish in the past, so tried to play it safe. Will try a diy heating project this year for. our winter time.

Wonder if painting the white tubes different colors would make the fish more or less likely to swim through it. Red vs Blue, Green vs Black, Brown vs Grey, etc., Thumbs Up, BTW

Haven't really thought of that...🤔 I would imagine if I made it black some species might have felt safe in it like the bottom dwellers or catfish.

Sorry for putting this here. Hi, Need ur expertise. I have just made a DIY CO2 generator today with citric acid(200mg in 600ml h2o)+baking soda(200mg in 200ml). Its been almost 16hours now after the set up,but the water level in citric acid bottle has finished. And I had shut down the regulator flow meter before sleeping,yet the CO2 pressure gauge shows more than 1. Need to know whats happened for the water level to drop and what are consequences with this much pressure in the bottles. I am running 2bub/sec. Is this normal to finish the citric acid water level to get empty?

I think the idea is a cool idea! One question though........how would you clean it when algae builds up in the tubes!

Catherine Kennedy Thanks, I now have it in between two ponds (you can see a recent video I made on the updates) I have a few apple snails in the ponds that are great at cleaning it, but once a month I take it out and clean it with a sponge attached to a magnet. that worked well but I recently tried a sponge attached to a rope that I just pull through a few times, and. that works really well.
