In this video I show you to to an easy at home tutorial on how to low light your own hair. In order to add depth, darkness deepen your existing color and and add dimension and contrast to your blonde. Here I am using a demi permanent color by color brilliance, mixed with a demi permanent developer. I explain that since we are darkening and there will be no lift, that there is no reason to use ammonia and harsh chemicals when all we want to do is lower the color. I show how to do this with a simple technique using a highlighting comb and foil. I do only four rows of foil low lights. With a simple weaving technique anyone can do. Avoiding the pieces framing the face, in order to leave them blonde to mimic that which the sun would do to the hair for a natural beautiful look. I explain that a little goes a long way when low lighting. Especially for the look here where we were going for a subtle soft low light that would aid also in toning any brass that was present in the hair. Processing time is quick. You dont need to leave it on long for you are using a demi permanent which acts fact due to the fact that it doesn't need to lift only deposit color. I left it on about 10 minutes. Checking every five minutes. You can leave it on from 10-15 minutes. Making sure not to use a color too ashy for this staying with in the neutral and warm tones. Because blonde hair will talke ashy tones more than other colors.

yes I rinse out the foiled pieces in the sink, while still semi in the foil to prevent any color fall out and any water to get to your blonde hair you dont want changed. ANother trick is putting conditioner on the blonde hair in between foil pieces. To seal and shield the hair from lowlight color. Because hair color does not penetrate through oil based products :) Good luck!

@lindasalfen7879
@lindasalfen7879 2 жыл бұрын
I was going to ask you that because I have the dark roots and lots of grey growing through (which is a whole other story) and of course my blonde highlights. I did the conditioner thing after I learnt my lesson when all the root color got in my blonde. My problem is I can not get along with the foils so I use a cap which I love until I get to the back!!!!!! and my daughters don't have the patience to help so I dread to see what the back looks like lol....... anyway when pulling thru on the cap I don't want it on my blonde so is it a case of just putting conditioner on all the bits except roots and then just bleaching the dark of the root.... darn nightmare...I have to say I am actually enjoying doing it all myself now...... once I learn the tricks......and i do my own my nails lol

I just wanted to say Thank you...I just tried this at home, I used a 7,1 ash blonde because my hair is slightly darker than yours and I did 3 levels of lowlights and it turned out beautifully! Got rid of the yellowy/orange look I had and looks really natural! I've never attempted this before and was pretty scared. I also followed your hair cut tutorial and gave myself a trim....THANK YOU! Keep the tutorials coming, you're amazing!

Lots of derisive comments on here. If you don't like the video, don't make a rude comment, just go watch something else. If you're taking the time to watch the video just to pick Silvia apart (the eyebrow thing, really?!) then you're obviously somehow threatened by her (jealous or envious or just possessing low self esteem), and again I say, go watch something else. Only very insecure and impossibly rude women watch beauty tutorials just to insult - or even give backhanded compliments - to the creators of such videos. That said, thank you, Silvia, for being generous enough to show us all these hair coloring techniques - for free.

QUESTION: "Do the root to diffuse it a little bit" you said right before you processed. You returned in shot hair completed (looks great) I'd like to know what 'doing the root' means? Can you explain the technique, set time etc. My hairdresser (friend) added too many for foils, my hair is now 10 level all over. I'll be doing this myself as to not hurt any feelings :) I'll be using 8N also, but obviously will need to add more rows. Thank you for posting a video such as this, allows one to do a correction ourselves.

I am a licensed cosmetologist. It is very possible to do a partial highlight or lowlight on your hair at home. Depending on your color level you need to watch what tones are using as going to neutral will make the hair look muddy. And also watching the width of your partings. As that video showed those were very large partings and sections. You can't just grab a big chunk of hair because it makes the color or lightener harder to penetrate through all of that hair thus leaving bleeds or hotspots.

@beautyqueen909
@beautyqueen909 9 жыл бұрын
Shawna Jenson I was wondering if I'm a level 9 bleached out and want to go to a level 6 base using that technique weaving in the lowlights then add caramel honey blonde on bottom will I need to fill first? Or does that Ion color deposit and fill? I need to find a color line that does both in one step.
@beautyqueen909
@beautyqueen909 9 жыл бұрын
Shawna Jenson also I did an 6n and it did turn muddy and grabbed green I had to clarify a lot and did few bleach baths to get it out.. I used Redken gels I did not fill hair first that's why
@shawnal5979
@shawnal5979 9 жыл бұрын
Baby Mendoza With a level 6 you are depositing color, so you could fill it first, or just use a slightly higher developer and leave on a few minutes longer. Also A 6n in neutral, pulls cool tones w/ green as it sounds like you figured out. If you are trying for a caramel honey blonde, you need more warmth or golds added in. Try RUSK color line-- 6nw, with a little 7ch (chocolate mocha) with it. :)
@shawnal5979
@shawnal5979 9 жыл бұрын
Jess Lyon Im saying you cant take think partings and just throw color or pre-lightener on them, it will not penetrate (go thru) all the hair and process unevenly.

Thanks for the very helpful video. I've winged this on my own before and appreciate the chance to see a professional share her techniques. As for the rude people making fun of anything about your appearance, perhaps they would like to post a close up of their faces and we can discuss and critique. I'm sure we could provide them with some equally catty criticisms. The "ums" are a tad distracting but I haven't noticed them in your other videos. I assume you were a little distracted here, as we all are sometimes. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and know that most of us really appreciate your tutorials.

yes in know that normally happens when you use a too dark color or too ashy.. Even a neutral (N) can be too ashy but normally only if its bellow a level7. So my advice is to keep your lo light above a level 8 and if still worried stay more with in the gold tones. Even though gold doesnt sound appealing to blondes, in this case its a good balance to making it way too ashy!

Hi... I stumbled across your clip while searching for info on low lighting. THANK YOU! I don't watch much on KZfaq but have to say how refreshing it is to view a REAL person. I noticed there's been some rude comments made toward you. PLEASE just ignore them completely. They only want to illicit a response from you to feed their insecurity and narcissism.. they'll soon find someone else to infect with their negativity. Ignore and rise above. What they say is truly a reflection of themselves and their lack of internal fortitude, so take solace in that knowledge. And, yes.. you could pass as Lindsay Wagner's daughter! You're absolutely gorgeous. Don't change, and DO keep up the wonderfully informative clips. I'm off to try my first lowlight experiment. All the best x

I have full head bleached blonde then I’ve done the roots with high lift box blonde for about 6 months. I want to add dimension because the color is so flat and dull looking. I was wondering would you suggest lowlights weave thru whole hed to look natural? I want a lot of blonde still and blonde high up on my head. That is why I wasn’t going to try your reverse balayage. But maybe the balayage would be better? Thanks 😊

Hi I’m just wondering when you are doing lowlights is it the same shade as your shadow root? Or are they two different shades? Thanks 🙏

Chrissy moore, it's actually very easy. Anyone could do this without any experience. And the things she has to do this, you can find at sallys for cheap. And for all the ums, um um um um. Who cares. She so um, pretty and um, she has like um, really good videos. Lol. That's so funny. Thanks for the video. Loved it.
