This is a log hauler made for an ATV. This is a simple log hauler that keeps the logs off the ground and out of the mud. 1200lbs hand winch is used and has no problem picking up heavy logs. This trailer is designed to handle log lengths 8 feet to 16 feet. The ATV is a Kawasaki 300 and has no problem pulling this trailer.
At first when I made this, the rear width was too wide for the narrow trails, notice half way through the video I modified it to be narrower and shorter.

Well done. I made one quite similar, for moving logs onto my sawmill, but I like your winch position better than mine. My winch is mounted on the top tube of the frame and runs over a pulley at the end. With bigger logs the winch handle hits the log when you get it up close to the top. I did build mine wide enough to fit over the bed of my sawmill though, so I can wheel the logs right onto the mill instead of manually loading.

Thanks! I recently made a new one for my parents, it has wider tires for the softer trails. I also added a snatch block with a grab hook to make it easier to crank up heavy logs. I like the idea of making it wide to load a saw mill.

Brilliant. I have been wanting to make something similar but this is a much better design.

Very well done. I would recommend trying to put some kind of brace on the front 90 angles you have so when you hit rocks or stumps they pull the whole thing back rather than stressing those two joints but great build. Gave me a few ideas for when I build mine. So thanks.

Really looks good. What wheels, tires and axles did you use?

Thank you, The axles are just Stub axles from princess auto, with matching tires/ rims. They are rated for around 1000lbs each

I'm in the design process myself and I'm chompin' at the bit checking out other peoples designs. I like yours, it's clean, simple and efficient. What size and thickness tubing did you wind up using? Yours looks like the size I need here in Idaho. Do you have any dimensions you would share? Have a great day. Jim Mills

Hi Jim, I used 2x2x1/8 tubing , the end that cradles the log also has flat bar which increases its strength , yesterday I picked up a 600+lbs log and it worked fine. Since this I have made a new one with wider tires and a snatch block. I have new footage and more explanation that I'll be making a video soon.

@@dooryardfabrication3973 I bit the bullet ($$) and picked up some 2x2x3/16" tubing. I wasn't sure that 1/8" would be heavy duty enough. Seeing the flat stock was for added strength I probably should have guessed that 1/8" wall would need it.How long did you make your top rail from where it drops down to the tongue to where it goes up for the winch? I'm a carpenter not a welder ... we'll see how it comes out.

@@jimmills8260 3/16" would be better just slightly heavy , no problem there. My measurements were based off the diameter of the largest tree I would consider taking . I went with 24" then added ground clearance about 10-12" and then subtract the height of the hitch on your bike.

2x2x1/8” and it is plenty strong, the long main frame does have some flex but you could strengthen it by stitching on flat bar on its edge as a spine.
