Been putting this task off as I had never replaced anything with the tub faucets before and was reluctant to try it. This video made the job so easy! I couldn't believe how easy it was to repair and not a single drip now. The old seals I removed didn't look like there was anything wrong with them, but I replaced both of them anyway. So glad to get the job done! Thanks for a great video--easy to fix and I am sure I saved at least a couple hundred dollars. If I can do this at age 68 (grandma), anybody can do it!

Thanks for the video. One additional tip. When trying to seat the seal/spring, I discovered that a flathead screwdriver can damage the seal. I used the eraser end of a no.#2 pencil to seat the seal and it worked fine.

Thanks so much for this - single mom of 15 yrs. and lived in log cabin for 22 yrs. so used to DYI. Recently all kids on their own in army/college/etc. and decided to move to a cheaper state thank NJ. Moved into a flipped property so knew everything was done on the cheap BUT did not expect to have toilet leaking into Kitchen (when that was my one walk-away that was supposedly fixed) and shower leaking into walls (which I only discovered by dripping into kitchen below). This saved me not just the plumber's cost of what I knew I could fix, but the cost of new faucet. Just had to replace the parts. While I will eventually redo the whole bathroom, not at $ to do so now as I've only been in the house 2 months, and dealing with all these issues while I should be job hunting in a new state and town. Had 1st toilet issue (reseat on new wax seal) done by a professional (beyond my ability), and now dealing with second toilet issue of it backing up into my kitchen via sink and laundry hookup....wish me luck and again THANK YOU

Thanks for the video - very helpful. I got toward the end where you can pop out the plastic cartridge. Mine was stuck. Could see from your video that I didn't need to unscrew anything, it just needed to be worked at a little. Who's got two thumbs and a shower that no longer leaks? This guy.

I'm working on mine right now and the little white cartridge was stuck for me too. I got it out by screwing the long screw that holds the water knob back into the hole of the cartridge and turned the screw gently until it stopped. Then, I very gently tugged the screw with my hand until it popped out. I know this response is late, but hopefully it helps someone.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH ! I wish I had known this the last time I had to do this , the technique using two screwdrivers actually used an ink pen to hold the washer and a screwdriver to push it off and I had put soap around the hole to help it go in the last time a year ago the spring would not stay in so I had to expand the large end of it with two pair of needle-nose pliers multi-tools. It's amazing how something so simple can be so frustrating :(

I’m only about half way through the video and I want to say thank you. For a long time the plastic part that the handle goes into worked but trying to get it to hold the handle and keep working, it would not do. I used to take a wrench and screw the plastic piece to get cold water but then that part stopped working. I finally turned the metal extension piece today and the tub faucet began running cold water. I’m not looking forward to shutting off my water - I live in a 1965 trailer so there isn’t any shut off valves for just the bathroom - for who knows how long to find out which piece I need but at least now I know a little more and can take cold showers during the summer again.

Very well done and helpful. One addition - to help get the springs and seats in place in one step, I used a phillips screwdriver with a shaft slightly smaller than the hole in the seat. I put a tight fitting rubber washer on the screwdriver shaft about an inch from the tip. Then I placed the seat with the spring in it on the shaft. The rubber washer was tight enough than when I inserted the spring and seat into the hole - the rubber washer didn't slip back up the shaft and I was able to push the spring and seat in place in one step.

Tip for Seat and spring installation. Seat and spring kept falling and would not stay put during install. Assemble seat and spring as one unit before sticking inside pipe. Put the Bottom of spring , the base of cone shape spring, inside the seat. Make the spring and seat as one unit. Use screwdriver to guide it in hole. Use finger to apply pressure on seat. This should make the seat and spring stay put.

I can not get the seat and spring to stay in. The hole is so small I can barely get my finger in there to push it and when I do the seat won't go all the way in and falls out
@dantegarcia3196
@dantegarcia3196 10 ай бұрын
Another tip to get past @kelseymelton1783 ‘s issue - when putting the seal/spring assembly in with a Phillips screwdriver, the assembly kept sliding up the screwdriver when I was trying to force it in. So, I wrapped some duct tape around the screwdriver to prevent it from sliding up. Then, i twisted the assembly around to try and get all of the seal lip inserted, and used a flat head to push in the parts of the lip that wouldn’t go inl

Update: Turns out I had a Moen 1224 valve. It was quite stuck as it had been in there for 30 years. I had to loosen it with WD-40, then use a flathead screwdriver to pry it while pulling on it with a pair of pliers. On one of them the washer at the end broke off and stuck inside and I had to pick it out. My Moen model doesn't have a separate seat, so that was nice. Once I got the old ones out and was able to find the replacement parts (Lowes is the only place that had it besides Amazon), it came together nicely. Of the 15 videos I watched, yours was the most help as it was more similar to what I have.

Drip fixed. I did modify your procedure in one respect. While installing the new seal and spring I was having problems sliding them into place and seeing what I was doing. I switched to a zip tie from a screw driver. This gave me space to see inside the valve and use my finger to slide the seal and spring into place. I put a slight bend in the zip tie about 2 inches up from the point so the parts could not easily slide off till ready. Thanks for your video.

I found that if you wrap black tape around the shaft of the Philips head with enough wraps to be able to put pressure on the seat while installing that it was much easier to get it in to the hole. The tape needs to be on the screwdriver up far enough so the seat and spring will just fit on. 👍

Using the screwdriver to put the seat and spring back in there is a game changer! I always balanced them on the edge of my pliers and just kept trying until it worked 😂

Thanks... I have a older valley faucet that has a similar seat. For the Valley 3Z-6H/C Faucet Stem your video shows how to do this process of seat and spring install best.

Thanks for the video, I tried channel locks to remove the outer sleeve and it would not budge that way, since it is flimsy plastic I was worried about breaking it. Thankfully I had a pipe wrench. I would recommend you have one available if yours is so corroded that you can't loosen it.

I figured that there must be a trick to getting the spring and seat to stay in place so I went online and saw how you did it with a screw driver. I took it a step further and cut a 4" section of 3/8 rigid sink supply tube and slid the screwdriver into that and then the seat and spring and it made a perfect ram to set seat in place rightly and evenly.
