Great video, thanks. I'm about to take on a small shower stall by myself, so your video was very helpful and informative. One suggestion, trying to get "crisp lines" is almost impossible, so what I've done in the past is use caulking to "smooth out" the line, appearance-wise. My grandpa taught me that caulking helps "hide a multitude of sins."
@thelarewsdo
@thelarewsdo 2 жыл бұрын
Your grandpa is a wise man! We used green frog tape for cleaner edges (wait 15 minutes before carefully removing the tape at a 45° angle) then we caulked all of our seams once the product had sufficient time to cure... It definitely makes things look much neater! We wish you the best of luck with your project! You got this 👊 Thanks for watching!

I will be getting to the painting step this weekend but I found that hitting the caulked areas with WD-40 breaks down the caulk and makes for easier sliding with the razor blade. Also, believe it or not, I used one of those triangular head power sanders with the hook and loop pads that allowed to get into corners, didn't require any pressure and you could cover the shower very quickly on that sanding step.
@thelarewsdo
@thelarewsdo 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Michael, One though with using WD-40 is make sure to completely remove ALL the oily residue before painting. Good call with the sander and light pressure, working smarter not harder. 😀 How did your project turn out? Thank you for watching.

Thank you. I purchased direct from the company to include their mask. Like you, I have all the other tools. My concerns have been not having a bathroom window in the guest bathroom for the tub/shower surround. I think I may need to lodge up in a hotel for a couple days with my dog after I finish. Appreciate your feedback and thoughts on the product! Love it! So helpful!

Hey Debbie! Do you have an exhaust fan in the bathroom? If so, that will help tremendously. Turn it on and open your door half way while painting to keep steady, fresh air flowing through the bathroom. When you are finished, leave the exhaust fan on and close up the bathroom and you should be ok. That's our plan for the bathroom downstairs this winter. 😀 We were just discussing last night how happy we still are with the shower. The steps taken to prepare the tub for paint is key. Best of luck on your project! Let us know if you have any questions. Have a great day!

You two are so cute! Thanks for the video, it makes me so happy that people take the time to film and review things. I just finished my tub using the bathworks 24 hr dry time kit and it looks amazing. A few small runs/drips but otherwise I am really pleased. It looks a million times better than the dirty chipping tub. The kit says 24 hr dry time. It has been about 32 hours. While it is dry to the touch it's still tacky.... I am not about to shower in it lol. Do you recall how long you felt like it took to actually really really harden up?? Because I will tell you it is definitely NOT 24 hours. And I am in Utah which is 94 degrees and dry out.

I just finished this project. I have no major drips or runs, but it did not dry as smooth as I hoped. The instructions encourage you to keep the roller wet and not "dry roll" but when I went back for the second coat that whole step was essentially a dry roll. The cost and the effort is worth it for an average home, but for a higher end renovation I can see why someone would hire a professional that would spray the material.

@thelarewsdo
@thelarewsdo 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! This product can be used on cast iron, porcelain, and fiberglass tubs, sinks, tile, and showers. Not sure about using it on a toilet 🤔. The only problem I could see is that the risers/bumpers on the bottom of the toilet seat could mar or indent the finish over time. Bathworks recommends not allowing anything to rest on the surface for extended periods of time.

Bad reviews on Yelp is your hobby. Please use these ridiculous DIY kits. You can't afford the $800 work I do and decide to bad mouth contractors instead. 😂 I'm busy 5 days a week and booked out 2 months. We utilize 8 different preparation steps before shooting the glaze. 5 hours minimum and sometimes 7 hours to get the surface to a true PH balance. Have a great day. 😂

I have used this product. Bathworks works great but you need to be careful with the prep. The prep and tools are key. I did a different technique on my tub and shower walls by putting the product in small cups and poured it down my tile walls from the top and then spread it with a foam roller intended for oil based paints. It turned out great and I didn't get any roller marks.

@@thelarewsdo one other thing I found was a product called Ekopel. It is not a stinky as bathworks but if you watch the videos for how to do Ekopel.... You will see what I mean about pouring it down your walls. I still used a roller but it went alot smoother then just rolling it on. I have never tried the Ekopel but I liked the pouring method.

I did this to my shower about 1 month ago. I have a lot of drip marks because the instructions said not to dry roll. Can these be sanded and painted over? I have an extra kit. Suggestions appreciated
@thelarewsdo
@thelarewsdo 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Rosie, I would think that those areas could be sanded down. Then, prep the surface per the original instructions, skipping the liquid primer. It seems to be similar to paint thinner and I fear it would damage the epoxy. IF you choose to add that step, definitely test it on a small area first. Personally, we would do the TSP wipe down after sanding and clean things up with a tack cloth then get to painting. If you notice runs or drips during the new application, be sure to roll them in before they harden. Also, try to feather the new paint onto the non-sanded area to help blend in the repair. We hope this helps! Please let us know how it goes. 😀

I'm painting shower floor tiles that are small so lots of grout lines. Do you think a regular roller cover (non-foam) with a thicker nap would work?
@thelarewsdo
@thelarewsdo 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Mark, The product is pretty thick and sticky. I'd think a foam roller would still work for your application and would adequately cover the grout lines and tiles. You could always have both a foam and non-foam roller on hand, start with one or the other and switch if you feel it necessary. We'd be concerned the product would pull lint from the non-foam roller and the heavier nap would leave a texture. Remember - - it's like painting with honey 😊 Good luck! Let us know which roller you end up using and how it goes!

BTW, the ventilation has me concerned. The bathroom is small but there is a window that goes right outside. You suggest a fan against that window to draw the fumes out or at the door way blowing the air out and closing the bathroom door? Also, this takes two coats, so I'm thinking you do the walls, go back on the walls a second time then overlap to the floor/tub area twice unless it is possible to use a roller reach type pole.
@thelarewsdo
@thelarewsdo 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Michael ! First, the ventilation. I would suggest putting the fan in the bathroom window and blowing the air outside. Open another window in the adjacent room to create a draft and that should help get the smell outside. Second, I would suggest doing the entire shower during each coat--walls and floor/tub once then go back again and coat walls and floor/tub. If you do the walls twice and then try to blend the floor in, it definitely won't blend well. Third, we really like the idea of using the triangular sander with light pressure! Definitely sounds like it would save some time as long as you're not too aggressive with it. We'll consider using one for our next shower/tub redo. Thanks for watching! Let us know how your project goes!

Hey! The shower is still just as nice as the day we first started using it after applying the coating. We are very pleased with the results. One thing to note though, you do not want standing water to lay for extended periods of time. (For example, allowing your wet loofah to lay on the built-in bench or the bar of soap to lay in water). This causes the coating to develop bumps/rough spots. We noticed this, then changed our shower system to eliminate standing water and the coating "dried" back out and it's still good as new. Thanks for watching! Have a wonderful day!

We used this system and I do NOT recommend it. There is no such thing as a short cut. The kit says nothing about a warranty but it does say that any standing water on a sill must be removed and that you can not use a bathmat without a suction cup and basically you can't put anything on the edge of the tub. If I would've know that I would've walked away. We bought 2 kits, one for the shower walls and one for the tub. The little woman used up 2 entire kits just on the tile walls. You'd think the manufacture would assist in the cost to get the tub done but they gave us the finger. And you'd think since the product was twice as thick on the walls that it would be more durable....NOT. This product has been on my shower walls for 2 weeks and I can already see tile underneath. This is a crap product but let's see what the warranty covers and how well the manufacture cooperates....maybe I'll get some satisfaction after all...oh and yes, I am going to replace all the tile...

Hey, Pre painting prep work is what makes or breaks the outcome. We spent the majority of the time preparing the surface to accept the paint. It also sounds like you should have 'dry' rolled; too much product on the roller will create a nightmare to work with. It's been years since we painted ours and it's still just as nice as day one. We leave shampoo bottles on the shelf and have had only a minor issue. But, that was after 3 yrs, is easily repairable, and the manufacturer was super helpful. As far as the floor, we added grip material to the floor and it's worked great for traction in the shower. We're sorry to hear you had a bad experience with it, but it all comes down to prep work. We still have one bathtub to do and we'll try to make another video showing that process and reviewing our shower after all these years. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel. Have a wonderful day!

@@thelarewsdo Our experience with the product was that it dried too fast and rolling it became a nightmare. That's why we ended up using twice as much product. Our prep work was above and beyond because we knew that this would be a one shot application An update: the sill under the window was pat dried after each shower and now there are 6 spots where I can see the original color of the tile and the grout. When we do the tub we will re-apply and hopefully get some longevity out of the product, I still don't recommend this product. I would rather do a re-tile or an insert..
