Part 5 to a multipart series on a combo build where we are mixing a Volksrod, Baja, Racecar and other designs from all types of Volkswagen Beetle builds and rolling it into one epic build... I hope lol
Today we are starting to brace the beam extension that was previously tacked together. This is a part 1 of 2 for the bracing.

It’s definitely not light and there’s more bracing going to be added into it! Like I told someone else, if this thing breaks, it’ll just be my time to go 😂

That thing is solid, looks like great fabrication to me.that car is going to be so cool.i like the traditional VWs. But I really like the creativity of what you’re doing. It’s kind of a mystery what it’s going to turn into

Thanks Roy! Just wait, there’s more bracing going into this.... the car should break in half before this extension gives out! I do like the traditional VW’s as well but wanted to let what little creative juice flow on this one. I think it’ll be interesting, at the minimum I’ll at least like it lol

OK you talked me into it. Been wanting a new welding helmet so I ordered the Eastwood helmet ( won't get until December as they are back ordered ). Guess I'm getting a Christmas present ! Got my Jawbreaker shirt - NICE !!

Just a thought on that tank clearance. You could raise the tank a little with spacers., possibly have the filler coming out through a neat hole in the trunk lid with a nice fliptop cap? Solve a clearance issue and create a nice feature at the same time!

Good progress Gary ; I have a Hobart stick welder for heavy metal or steel and use 1/8" E7018 Low Hydrogen Rod good strong stuff. When I weld up cast Iron I will use a Weldcote Nickle 99 1/8' rod work will on cast.

For those of us who aren’t professional welders with expensive setups, a stick welder does wonders. My Eastwood is a good welder but the duty cycle and amperage is less than my stick welder. This old Lincoln buzz box will weld for what seems like forever. Hope you’re doing well buddy.

@@VWJawbreaker Back in the 70's when I work at a family own tool & die shop we had Lincoln buzz box, they were work horses..you could not kill them, ran for ever in fact we had 2 of them in the shop..Not many people had mig welders back then & in high school we had stick welders ..Back in the late 60s early 70s in high school we had welding shop, machine shop, sheet metal shop, wood shop, auto shop and even a foundry were we made and pour alum castings. Drafting was a requirement doing both 2d and Iso machine drawings. In our sr. year in high school the ones who turned 18 were working 3rd shift at the local steel mills. Different world today ..

If you can the housing if the trans. I could use it on my engine stand. Work is coming along. Ever thought about RHD or center mount the steering wheel. Just a crazy idea

More progress made! I missed the part about the engine out of Jawbreaker. What's going in it now? Will that helmet fit over my glasses? Looking forward to more updates.

When the 60 is ready for the road it’ll get the engine out of jawbreaker. Not sure what will go into jawbreaker at that point, maybe a stock 1600 for the time being. I wear glasses with the helmet without issue at all, well worth the money I paid for it.

I was thinking a lift kit for the gas tank? would clear the hood, and clear the steering.

Yep, hadn’t fully cleaned it out at that point. It gets cleaned out, rust treated, etc before it’s all said and done.

@@VWJawbreaker Trim up that hardware and make a spacer to raise the tank a little give the tank 1/8 inch clearance to steering linkages .Doesn't look like it will take too much.

You can always use a plunishing hammer and carefully massage a little more room. Cut tanks look bad and will eventually fail.

Clean the outside of the tank and tape over any pin holes then use KBS coating fuel tank kit for large motorcycles and it will clean up the inside aND seal it..Then paint and body work the outside of the tank. If your going to run a big motor from jawbreaker then vent the neck on the fuel tank and use a large csp petcock for a good fuel supply .

That was the plan with the tank, add a vent and run an AN line for fuel out of the tank. That’s a long way down the road though.
