About 50% done with the front, then off with the body to tackle the chassis and body! Have some cool ideas for those as well. Stay safe and healthy and enjoy your weekend.

It's cool to see you having so much fun with this build. Good times here. Hopefully that tie rod still clears as it moves back and up with the suspension loaded but that's what grinders and welders are for! Another name suggestion.... "Volksraja"!

I know it's a late, but when using 2 U joints like on an intermediate shaft it's important to phase them and keep them inline with each other. The other thing cutting the intermediate shaft more towards the middle would have made it easier to align and straighten the two halves together... Not bashing your work, just trying to offer some advice for anyone considering a similar project

I appreciate the feedback. The u joints were kept on the same plane as they came off of the super beetle so they are aligned like they were from the factory.

The u-joints on that steering shaft should be on the same plane as one another so it won't bind

I hear you but you’ve never seen how much of an angle they are on a super beetle. There is no binding at all with the current setup. I appreciate you lookin your though and you’d be correct if they were a different style u joint.

Beam extension 1/4 inch longer and that tie rod would have cleared 🤪 looking Good so far. So..... what’s the plans for a powerplant for this Bad Arse Baja. 🤔.

You know, I thought the same thing. However, I didn’t want to bitch the hood and have the steering box stick out and I don’t want to invest in a rack and pinion steering. Trying to keep this build reasonable. Power plant wise, the 2054 from jawbreaker will probably go in it unless something changes down the road. Thanks for being here, have a safe week.

Why not rebuild the Rod and not grind out all that and the time ? Cut the rod an reembrace it around the gearbox ?

Yes, you could use a steering rack and pinion setup.... it would need to be a non power steering rack.

I appreciate the concern. I do state that I’m not an expert and I also didn’t give advise on how to do it, I’m just showing what I’m doing and my experience along the way. If someone doesn’t feel that they can achieve a safe vehicle, then they should either buy the necessary parts or have someone else build their vehicle. Also, I’ve done a few others this way without an issue and even had an engineer state that it was overly constructed.
