@Nathaly5k Too often a lot of the latest design/decor trends are just that: trends. People will eventually get tired of it and many won't think twice to throwing it out because not many others want it either. Not to mention companies (like Amazon) who have to package and ship products use styrofoam/plastic wrapping that always end up in landfills. Plus buying from thrift stores, garage sales, etc can save perfectly good items from going into the trash.

My friend got a house like this for 4O grand on 2 acres & put another 40 grand into it. Her brothers & herself did all the work but when they were done it was beautiful for a single mom & her teen daughter. They lived there 20 years & a few years ago her daughter & hubs bought a home 2 streets away so the grand children can be close it’s so nice. Now we have to get a nice wooden swing set for grand mom.

@@Nawiye yes, there are loans that contractors can get. She was able to set up a company & hire her brothers and an architect to do the work. She got some money to start, then after each thing was done ,the architect would have to be called in to sign off on the last thing they finished. Then she got the next amount of money. This is how she was able to gut the house & redo everything. New roof all the way up & down.

I wish more people understood that defaulting to 'Ordering everything off Amazon' is a small repetitive choice you mkake that is SERIOUSLY undermining your family's & community's future. Supporting small local businesses doesn't always cost more -- and even when costs are a fraction more -- small stores or local chains keep jobs and tax revenue in your neighborhood and ensures a community of experts are around to help you when so-called 'customer service help line' is no help I know they don't exist everywhere anymore -- but I encourage everyone to try a little harder to find the smaller individual hardware, lighting & plumbing stores that still exist in most cities.

Maybe to them “original glory” means the latest in beauty and function, as it probably was at the time it was built. It’s beautiful and functional for current use. I get what you’re saying, though. Maybe her choice of words isn’t exactly right. Whether we think they adequately describe the outcome, it’s definitely better than allowing this house to continue to deteriorate. The style is great for some, not for others. Personally, I think it’s beautiful, but will be even more so with some vintage finds and decor.

My home growing up was an farm house built in 1926. It fell down around us. I still have dreams where I fixed it up. I now live in . built in 1964. I'm much older. I've remodeled important things like plumbing, kitchen, bathrooms multiple times. But here we are 2023 and everything needs an over haul. Plumbing is holding so far. Theres always so much to do. So it's truly wonderful you did this for a nice family. People don't fet what it takes to remodel. especially if u do it right on a budget. I still have inner debates about the popcorn ceiling and asbestos siding

I’m glad making a quick buck isn’t your top priority. I’m looking at houses right now and I can’t tell you how many houses I’ve seen that were purchased 1-2 years ago and flipped using the cheapest materials, then marking the house up for 50% more.
@LaLadybug2011
@LaLadybug2011 Жыл бұрын
Right! And not just using cheapest materials, cutting corners and lying about it too. "We re-wired the entire house," really meant they changed out about 7-10" of wire at all of the receptacles--turns out they just did enough so the inspector wouldn't see it maybe the inspector just pretended not to see what they had done. We found out one Sunday morning when husband was in the kitchen cooking breakfast and I heard a loud pop and male scream at the same time. I went running for the kitchen-he was on the floor-he said the stove had shocked him. I ran over and unplugged it, and we pulled the stove out away from the wall and omg-it looked like a group of children from the daycare rewired the back of our stove. I even saw speaker wire (not even joking.) Oh, the joy of calling the realtor that "flipped" our house....if I could've reached through that phone! We had a brand new stove delivered the next morning. Why didn't they just do the right thing to being with? Ugggh. People. This house one the video looks gorgeous. Hopefully they are some of the honest flippers. If they are-probably prefer to be called something else.

@@sfstuccoyeah there are way too many people doing this as a fun hobby when it’s actually inserting yourself into the creation of another human being’s shelter. Something about the way ole girl said “always wanted _to do a flip house_ “ irked me. I’ve heard of flipping, the verb, but not “doing a flip house” what is this mdma at a dang flume show? It’s a house, not a nail polish color. You need to know what you’re doing beforehand. I was 21 I think when I bought my first house, I built up equity and did renovations along the way. Everything I did I had to learn and everything I chose, I chose because I wanted to improve my _own_ home. My ex husband still lives there, and there’s a stark difference between my renos and his “DIY” projects It just bothers me that the world we live in has so many people dying in the streets or experiencing homelessness bc of rent increases etc and yet, regular ass people are out here every day literally buying whole houses for *fun*

@@sfstuccoThat’s a pretty small factor, the biggest reason is large corporations (Amazon, Zillow, blackstone) are buying up majority of single family homes in order to rent them for profit. You can’t outbid a corporation with endless funds, and housing shouldn’t ever be a for profit scheme.

“Restoring” it to its original glory…with none of its original glory. 😉 This place could have been so cute with a few period accurate choices. Like classic square ceramic black and white tile instead of that weird trendy gaudy multi colored shaped marble looking stuff on the walls and backsplash. Probably be less expensive to stick to a more traditional look too. Like using a patterned linoleum/sheet vinyl and a vintage pedestal sink in the bathroom that’s available at every corner antique store. eBay has extremely affordable antique lights and sconces too. Just a few subtle tweaks and this would have been spot on. Renovating is great. There’s just a huge difference in restoring vs. renovating. But a lot of people don’t know the difference. A lot of clients want to restore old homes with all the items available on isle 42 of Home Depot. Or Amazon like this video (guessing it’s sponsored). Without a lot of knowledge to what is appropriate for the era. Or even what era they’re going for. Just putting “vintage” in the search bar and putting it in their cart. I took a break from working with home owners and remodelers to do my own Victorian, but videos like this make me want to get back to helping others again. Too many of these lovely properties are being lost.

They remodeled an old house. They didn’t save a historical home. Too modern to be considered a restored historical home.

This home reminds me of a neglected house in middle Georgia that needs your TLC!!!! BEAUTIFUL JOB! My favorite part is the barn door to the laundry room.

A real talent. Ace number one job. That house looked haunted and past sad before but like a birthday cake and happy after. I especially loved the jaunty chimney topper. A++

Here’s an even better hack, make an Amazon business account. Use your SSN as your taxID and say you’re a sole proprietor business (meaning you don’t need to register with the IRS, you’re your own company doing business as yourself.) Amazon business offers slightly discounted prices on most items and offers more discounts when you purchase multiples of the same item. It’s a win win if you’re gonna be doing something like renovating and need to save as many Pennie’s as possible.

Dont forget ReStore (habitat for humanity stores), Craigslist, and the dump, lol. You wouldn't believe what people throw away. For instance I got an antique kitchen apron sink at the dump.
