In this video I make a simple vise stand for my Wilton. All of the plate I use is .250” and the tube is 4x4x.250”. Thank you to those who gave some great feedback through my Instagram stories on how to mitigate the wobbly base.

I'm looking for a vise stand for my dad's 30-year old (now restored) bench vise. I grew up watching that thing take a ton of punishment while crafting a plethora of projects and even learned a lot myself from it. This video is a TON of inspiration for my next fabrication project. Thanks a ton for the creativity push.

That Wilton vise is DANK. Edit: good inspiration here, I'll likely borrow some design elements from your build and create a multi-purpose stand that can be used to mount bench vises, bench grinders, and other tools.

Hi, I enjoyed the video. I’d like to recommend welding in your main square tube to the bottom plate with 1 inch welds on opposite sides allowing to cool in between each set of 2-4 sections of weld until it’s fully welded in, instead of welding a solid line on each end in one go. You’ll find it doesn’t warp the bottom plate as much if at all.

Just a upgrade suggestion. weld 2 non rotating wheels on the front side so that they touch when you tilt the base so it is easy to move.

Pretty hard to beat a welding table when doing something like that base plate. Tack it to the table, weld on the leg braces etc, let it cool, break the tacks free and perfectly flat base.

The good thing about that type of stand is you don’t need the x/y pivot on the vice so can cheep out if you don’t need the z pivot (vertical pivot for the jaws) because the stand is moveable I made one for inside and one for outside because I’ve got a very very old vice I inherited (just oil once or twice a year to avoid rusting)

Any advice on how not to warp the bottom plate? (obviously dont heat it much) Stitch weld approach maybe? I am about to build one of these
@TylerBellMakes
@TylerBellMakes 4 жыл бұрын
I found that it will warp a little no matter what. Either heat the opposite side of the welds later with a torch to un-warp it or add stiffeners like tubes

I still can't decide if I want to buy a new 400s or a 600s. Have you ever wished you could get a 6 inch over the 4 inch? I think new prices are currently around $709 for the 4 inch and $1499 for the 6 inch.
