Yes, that is usually the case unfortunately. I have found that only AB rhinestones show up in resin, because each facet reflects the light in a different colour. Try those and it might work for you too :)

Sonja.R try using point back gems. Flat backs basically turn into a mirror when you put resin on them. I use point backs in my eyes. It's a pain to get them to sit right but boy is it worth it in the end!

Thanks! To buy from Taobao you need to do it through a third party. I do it with SpreeNow.com but there's other services out there that do the same thing. Basically, they allow you to search through their system, or through Taobao if you're comfortable with the website. You purchase through the third party service, they receive the items shipped from Taobao, then re-ship them to you. As you can imagine, this does take quite a long time. Another thing to try is search through Ebay and Etsy and see if anyone else is selling BJD molds. I know SproutyDoll sells some, but they are quite pricey.

You could only if you seal the eye base prior to using the pencils - something like MSC would most likely work. I haven't tried this myself, so I'm only assuming this would work well. :)

Oh btw I found the best way of placing point back gems for me is making a little hole in the eye center to fit the point into.

You can definitely do it in just one step - I personally do two steps because I often use glitter in my eyes and that tends to kind of float to the top and ruin that shiny, smooth dome surface. I don't think doing it in one step would necessarily ruin the dome shape - but doming in general is always tricky and sometimes overflows and ruins the eyes if you don't catch it quickly enough. I think fixing the pearl powder problem would just have to come down to securing it in a layer closer to the bottom of cavity and filling with clear resin the rest of the way. Hope that helps some! Have you experimented with different resins? I have worked with low and medium viscosity resins, but it would be interesting how high viscosity would work for domes.
