I would love to see you take one of those blanks and make it using more basic tools. Like what would a typical Joe Schmo have in the garage or shed. So no belt/drum sander but yes orbital hand held sander. That kind of thing. How few and how basic of tools can you use to get that bow blank to a working bow. That would also be a great test/promotion of the diy bow blank concept.

I have a odd bow build request! Can you do your best to make a fusion between the more eastern recurve composite and a european style longbow? Would that just take the shape of a really long recurve? A longbow with composite materials? I dont know! But it seems neat inside my mind.

Hey Paul this is really interesting and perfect timing. Our mechanical engineer was talking to me about testing this out. It makes a ton of sense to design a bow this way when the goal is speed! We are for sure interested in seeing what we can come up with! Thanks for watching!
@indy2867
@indy2867 Жыл бұрын
Adding mass to the part that has to move the most is going to slow you down. If you start wider at the riser you can preserve the higher draw weight, introduce more taper, and have a faster bow that still has good manners when you loose. Then if you want to get fun… Introduce very narrow tips and reverse tiller them, make them thicker front to back, so they are rigid. Then you preserve string angle, reducing stack, so you can make the overall length the bow shorter. Shorter limbs, less mass, more speed…

Well said!!! I would only add that in this scenario you have to be careful your portions of the limbs traveling a great distance are not under too much stress.

Hey there, I am about to attempt my first bow with some pin oak I got hold of. Just wondering since it's going to be a self bow whether it's ok to have the back of the tips a little wider rather than the front to work as tip overlies as I want to use the flat face of the log to make the bow and would rather not glue anything onto the back of the bow at all.

Ive been bingeing these tutorials like crazy lately and i have a few questions. So i have been wanting to get back into archery but this time i want to put my carpentry skills to work and build my own. the problem is i prefer really light draw weights like around 20 pounds or less. is it possible to make a wooden self bow with that light of a draw weight? so many tutorials have bows with crazy draw weights and im not sure where to start. any advice would be amazing. thanks for the amazing content!!!

have u seen the snake bow by arc rolan in France? all plastic shooting a max of 26 lb down through 20 and into 18 on the sixty inch adult version. being plastic they're considered virtually unbreakable particularly with putting the limbs into twist when stringing and de stringing without using a stringer. so maybe the best bow for learning on and even then one you'll likely go back to later on when you're shooting heavier or simply more expensive bows. under 45 bucks.

Several other things you can do to make it faster and smoother , go to 1/2 inch tips, reduce tip overlay thickness and add more taper to the lams.. If you want even more speed, make the press so the tips are as forward as the back of the bow , it will get more twitchy then tho..

Ok! Here is a serious question from a non knowledgeable person. I am 5'4" tall. Does it matter of the length of the bow, and poundage of pull?
@jjw5165
@jjw5165 Жыл бұрын
The length of draw and length of arrow are determined by the length of you arms and chest. So your bow dose not need grate length if arrow is only 27 inches long. Probably no benefit to extra length. Poundage is by your strength.
@michaelbagley9116
@michaelbagley9116 Жыл бұрын
Unless you are going for distance, a bow used in combat in primitive society or for small game does not need to be heavy in terms of poundage. A quicker bow would be more useful. After a 40-45 lb bow will very easily put an arrow through a human body or take small game like birds, shoats, small pigs, hares, or rabbits.
@hibahprice6887
@hibahprice6887 6 ай бұрын
170 is not enough. Ideally this is 60-65 m/s for a 40 lb light arrow (22 grams)
@hibahprice6887
@hibahprice6887 6 ай бұрын
I mean, 60 m/s is the minimum level for a "light" arrow. The bow should be able to withstand shooting 17 gram arrows without kickback or breakage. This bow will produce 63-65 m/s and it is a regular bow with fiberglass, still without carbon.
