I made this brush mower / bush mower/ bush hog from a regular push lawn mower. Works great just need to make brackets for the wheels on this design of mower.

I've been doing for years with old beater mowers I get out of the trash. I even cut saplings with them. I don't worry about the wheel extensions either. When I blow up the mower, I move on to the next one. Angle grinder at the ready!

Hey. I found a push mower similar to yours on the street for garbage last summer. It only needed a sheer pin on the shaft... and it works like new. It's a 7.5 hp, and it's really strong enough for brush cutting. I will install two wheels on the front like you did. I noticed that it was kind of hard on the arms for me, and it looks like it was the same for you. But hey, it was free, so I don't care to work out a bit! I had a big part of my land to clean, and it just did the job. Tks.

Perfect solution to your problem. If you think that you can do something, you will. Thanks Bro. Looking for an old lawn mower right now. I am going to install another blade on the shaft with the other one in a cross configuration. I will let you know how it all turns out. Thanks for your inspirational video. Well done.

For basically free, minimal mods, and light work, you can't beat that. I will soon have one. Have you seen how much a hog costs? If you only need it occasionally for light work, this is the bomb.

If you want it to last you'll need either a shear pin or to separate the blade from the motor with a belt. That's what makes the brush hogs so durable.

Carlos, well done to make a brush mower with cheap of the shelf equipment. One remark : on consumer lawnmowers the crankshaft is directly connected to the blade and is as such obsorbing all shocks ... but then again ... you will find another scrap lawnmower ...

Brush mowers have rotating blades on a swivel so the blade hits something but doesnt effect the shaft. Flail mowers are the best result.

Anybody who actually beats on POS push mowers knows that they can handle a lot more than some grass. I have broke and bent countless blades on push mowers. Hundreds probably. Ran over roots bricks rocks hammers anything you can think of if it was in the yard I ran it over. NEVER broke a engine. :)

Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower kzfaq.infoUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.

I made a brush hog like this 10 years ago, I cut the front away, slide the wheels back 4 inches welded back on Bought a heavy blade 1/4 inch ,it will cut 2 inch trees, Everyone called it the widow maker, cause the blade is sticking out the front.

Thank you for sharing. Don't blame your welder, slow down the feed lower the power and maintain a proper distance and angle from the weld. Spray your coil of wire with W D 40 or some kind of light oil.It takes practice. My first welds looked like chicken poo.

Gonna make mine with a shield or deflector plate in front of the motor, that thing seems to spray a lot of debris , also going to wear a full face shield when operating.
@Cmolejon
@Cmolejon 4 жыл бұрын
Face shield is a good idea. I always wear eye protection. For the most part I'm just cutting tall grass. I used it to cut really heavy brush at a friend's property and eye protection seemed sufficient. I thought about a plate for engine but this was so cheap I didn't bother

nice job, i was wondering if you cut equal teeth in the end of the blade it would help?
@Cmolejon

maybe not. Having a good sharp blade is probably best. If you are trying to cut anything bigger than maybe 1/4 thickness and dense, you should probably get a stronger machine. This thing has cleared so much brush/grass its great :D

I find A FAVORITE beautiful fishing point I like to camp out for the weekend with the family where brush can be heavy at time . I just start mowing it . Work weakly well ! I love his idea ! I just had this idea and I’m happy to see other people like you who have had success doing the same. My one question is: How well does it cut lawn grass after the mod? My assumption is that the loss of suction would cause it to not make as clean a cut on thinner grass as it did originally? Obviously it’s meant for thicker brush now but I’m just curious. Thanks

I treat my ride-on pretty rough, now have to replace the spindles and blades from a encounter with some firewood I thought I cleared...🙄 My older machines did better with less regard for obstacles, I think it's because my newest machine doesn't have anti-scalping wheels on the deck...gonna have to install some, on my third set of blades!!😒
