I think you should use the Marine quality sealer. They use it on boats, so since this is a sink area it should be perfect for you.

@@FurnitureFlippingTeacher there is a 2 part food safe epoxy I used over Rustoleum counter top paint. It has lasted 5 years.

Why not just use the products used on butcher block counters? That’s food safe...

I think marine grade “spar varnish” might not be food safe, plus, in times past, it yellowed badly.

I think it’s gorgeous too! I admire your skill and perseverance as well as your expertise in working out how to complete jobs Lauren! Love the herringbone pattern. Just a thought, how about using the herringbone pattern throughout the bnb as well as the colour choice? You have the herringbone wall hooks for the hallway so how about laying the sunroom floor with a herringbone pattern and using it on the bedroom feature wall (perhaps not the complete wall but partially) and perhaps somewhere on the stairs maybe in wall decoration or artwork.

If you are a renter and want to do this first put down a layer of white or sand brown contact paper and glue the wood on top of that then you can peel it up when you move out.

I'll be interested to see how that polyurethane holds up to the water. We installed a wood countertop and used Waterlox on it. 7 years later, it's doing awesome. No watermarks or stains whatsoever. I love this countertop though. So very beautiful.

I had a terrible time with my bathtub when I moved into my 1930 home. There was an excessive amount of calcium build-up. I started with BKF soft scrub then the powder, White vinegar, baking soda, then I remembered a trick using Mt Dew. I let it soak for 20 minutes and I saw large clumps of calcium float up. I still had a ring where the soda couldn't reach, and no amount of scrubbing would take it off. I thought I would have to live with it until I discovered Zep Toilet Cleaner that has an acid base and clings to the surface. I was so impressed that I have become a ZEP full-time user.

After cleaning, the drain part of the sink looks almost rose gold/copper and I was wondering if it might look really cool to spray paint that metal edge banding to match before reinstalling it and possibly find or paint the faucet to match as well? Those colors seem like they’d really compliment the wood tone.

It is just stunning. Truly. I've never seen anyone do that and am in love with it. You really nailed it with this project idea. Leaving it a natural color has added warmth, texture, and a touch of modern to the vintage sink and tile. Wow!!! 💗💗💗

This was such a great idea and it turned out looking amazing. I use these paint sticks often when I'm making dollhouse furniture and the one thing that helps me keep them all the right length size is by clamping a small piece of wood to the right side of the saw. This allows me to cut each piece the same size. I cut one butted up next to the clamped wood then each piece after the first piece goes butted up next to the same clamped wood making all the cuts will be exactly the same length. When my dad was alive he use to call this a stop block which ultimately makes all your cuts the same size in length. Just be sure you if you try this to cut slower to avoid the wood from kicking back or clamp a top wood guard on top of where the paint sticks slide over to the stop block wood.

It’s beautiful. I would have taken the easy way and bought a ready made piece of butcher block. The sink looks great. It’s nice that you record this time of your life. It will be interesting to see in the future.

OMG! What a labor of love! Days of work, but what a BEAUTIFUL job you did! Your renters had better love it! And Hooray--the faucet came off! And you did get the sink looking so nice! Can't wait to see it all done! I do agree to see about making the sink trim and the drain match. It would look so much nicer with your counter.

You are amazing! It looks beautiful, but I can't get over your patience. Years ago I did my countertop and I wound up painting it and then splattering it with a lighter shade and then applied three coats of poly and called it a day. Yours is so much better, but I think I might have lost my mind with that detail. It is gorgeous though and I can't wait to see the finished product. I am so enjoying your videos. Looks nice, but I doubt it will last with only poly. You really need to put something like a marine grade epoxy resin in an area where guests will be using water. The fact that you put water-based poly on will complicate using the resin. You will need to do extra surface prep to be sure you will get good adhesion between the poly and the resin, otherwise the resin will chip off.

I literally loved this idea!!! I’ve been searching butcher block countertops for my townhouse without ripping it all out! It was built 1972 so it would be a bit much. But this solved everything! My kitchen floor I did the peel and stick marble in herringbone pattern so when I seen the first pack of sticks I’m like I’m all in! Thank you so much for all your content. I love your channel! ❤

you should stagger the top of the countertop area. It looks a bit off & all glued down the same length in 4's.... It would look way better with some shorter & some longer staggered pieces. THE CHEVRON idea is soooo cool though !!!!!

I had a porcelain sink like that. I used part Clorox and Dawn and filled it up let it soak overnight and then used a scrubber to clean the rest. it came so white beautiful.

I couldn't get my sink clean just scrubbing it with bleach. but when I put bleach in the sink with water to mop my floor I was shocked and relieved that it was all clean when I drained the sink!!😅

I've been sitting through this debating if you're Braveheart brave or just completely nuts. I absolutely loved the idea of this. It's unique, creative, beautiful and extremely budget friendly, so this project is another one of your winners in my opinion. What kept me on the edge of my seat was your nonchalant attitude of "I've never done this or used that, but I've seen others do this so I thought I'd try it". Oh my gosh! After all of that tedious work of cutting all of those pieces and gluing them one by one onto the counter I would have froze in fear of trying anything new! I'd have been afraid of screwing it all up while cutting off the excess or not using a durable enough sealant or ruining the whole thing 100 different ways and then what? I have no doubt that I'd have worked myself into a fetal position on the floor in a panic attack! So, I just want to thank you for both your bravery and nuttiness so I can learn what works or doesn't without having to guess and drive myself crazy (it'd be a short drive) stressing over it. I'll have to look and see how well it's holding up over time now! I think I could maybe have the patience to do this on a bathroom counter, maybe.

Lauren you certainly took on a huge task with all your measuring and cutting, shows what great patience and skills you have developed, I think it looks great and butcher block counter tops are very popular so I think it's an excellent idea to make the benches last longer with out replacing them :)

Love the countertop. I use oversized heavy duty silicone placemats (Amazon) to protect my counters when I cook, then roll them up and put them away after I clean up. Love them, resists stains and can place hot things with no damage! Best wishes! 🌹❤️

Wow, what a labor of love. You did an amazing job with the cuts and the layout Lauren. I love the herringbone pattern. Great job using the sawdust for your filler. One thing I would do as a last counter addition would be to add a couple wooden hotplates for your guests to place hot pans on, so as to avoid wood burns on the new countertop.🌷🌷

I was sceptical...but, I love it!!! I did the 2x6 pine boards,burned and clear coat for a bathroom counter. Replaced the bowl and used an arched tap assembly. I may have did the happy 💃 when it was finished.

In the bath room I would clean up the windows and frost them so that you still have all the natural lighting yet privacy at the same time while saving money

I do agree with Sherry that is a final thing one should use a boat varnish or boot sealer on it as it will get a lot of water coverage.

That countertop is time consuming, but shows your dedication to doing things right, not just fast! It's beautiful. I hope the finish protects it. You're a rockstar! I bet seeing little projects finished is encouraging to keep going!
