The part I always have trouble with and I've never seen anyone address it, is properly sizing the drawers with slides so it's not too snug or too small. I measure every time and I seem to always be too tight. Also the other thing is how do you ensure that your cabinet doors have the same gap on the sides? I haven't done drawers or cabinets yet for my workbench I built and I'm still trying to figure out how to get the reveal the same before I do them.

The first set of Cam you made when you set the draw slides I noticed they were set back even with the plywood, but you did overlay doors and drawer fronts.

Great series and perfectly timed! About to build a complete set of kitchen cabinets, and your videos are the best out there. Question: At 56:55, installing undermount slides to the cabinet, do you have a spacer between slide and cabinet side? I'm guessing so, but you don't say and I can't see. Im.guessing your face frame overhangs the side, but also unsure what the face frame width is and how it's positioned. Thanks!

Presumably your face frame is thicker than the 18mm ply you used for your cabinets. So how do you deal with the difference between the cabinet base and sides being recessed from the faceframe? This is when having doors and not drawers

@@MWAWoodworks …when using the side mounted glides, the drawers are 1” less than the opening, giving 1/2” on each side. For example , the under-mount glides, what’s the drawer size for a 14” opening ?
@MWAWoodworks
@MWAWoodworks 17 күн бұрын
So you size drawers differently with undermount slides because you measure from bar to bar on the slides. The bars are what the drawer sits on. So you can use different thickness plywood for the drawer sides and end up with different size gaps on the sides. I think thats probably confusing if you've never used them but it's hard to fully explain in a KZfaq comment 😂

@@Navy1977 It’s possible, but chances are slim. Plywood prices are currently skyrocketing. The quality of materials you’ll use will more than likely surpass big box store bought. If you have a family, young children, or other responsibilities, purchasing instead of building might be the more practical choice. However, I’ll share this, the sense of accomplishment from building something yourself is truly invaluable.

FWIW the quotes I've seen to do custom cabinets for my size kitchen (10 upper and 8 base cabinets) was 45k-50k just for the cabinets and install, no countertops or lighting or backsplash or vent hood, just cabinets. These are custom cabinets made of plywood, not mdf or particle board like you would buy from a big box store. I can buy all the materials plus a $15k CNC to cut it all out for me and still be thousands and thousands of dollars ahead not considering my own labor to do the install 😁
@MWAWoodworks
@MWAWoodworks 2 ай бұрын
as a rough average about $300 - $350 per cabinet, so maybe $5.5k - $7k. That's with plywood at $100 a sheet. Also depends on type of hardware and painted or not.
@Tman317
@Tman317 2 ай бұрын
Hardly. You can build these using a circular saw, small pocket hole jig, and a drill/driver. Add a cheap contractor saw to rip face frames rather than buy presized from big box. Woodworking is cheap to start, and let's you expand as your skills expand. And yes, it is always cheaper and better to build your own!
