Are electric oils radiators better for heating than storage heaters.
@21stcenturycaveman33
@21stcenturycaveman33 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Quite frankly, anything is better than storage heaters even the more modern ones. The modern oil radiators are supposed to be quite good but I chose not to buy them as they heavy and there is a small risk of oil leakage. They also take a lot longer to heat up than some of the alternatives although to be fair they are supposed to stay warmer for longer after switching off. My advice? Avoid storage heaters at all costs. They're cr@p. ATB, Des

These things are baffling. So the heat is stored in the bricks, which are wrapped in insulation. What is the mechanism that lets the heat out when the end user wants it? Is there a flap that opens or something?

Hi there. Quite frankly they're so crap it's not worth even thinking about. Move on mate ......
@thebrightsideofthemoon5829
@thebrightsideofthemoon5829 3 жыл бұрын
Yes on these ones there is a flap that opens up at the top when you change the output, letting out the stored heat which has been charged during your off peak electricity times, by using the input. This guy has blundered throwing out thousands of pounds worth of equipment in place of a heater that's worth about £50 just because he couldn't work it. I've got 2 on full blast 24 hours a day and they only cost a couple of pounds a day. It's only the first day charging them up that's expensive, but as long as you don't keep switching it off because it's too hot or if your going out they will stay hot 24 hours.

@@thebrightsideofthemoon5829 the bricks in them are gold in weight now ,place them in bottom of the oven everytime u cook, and they store heat to be releasd over time to heat the kitchen , why waste heat input from cooking when heat can be absorbed and released over time

@@girlsdrinkfecki use a large fresnel lens but its defused so as not to cut straight through the bricks, I heat a brick up in my garden on ceramic in about 10 mins and transfer it into the oven and leave the oven door open so the heat gets out. free heating without solor power😂

Your crazy throwing out storage heaters in place of normal radiators. If you know how to work them they are actually really good at heating your house 24 hours a day and saving you a lot of money.

Sorry mate but if you had a PhD in mechanical engineering or quantum physics it wouldn't make a jot of difference. They're not good at heating your house at all - they're absolute sh*te! Best wishes, Des

I wouldn't say they're inefficient, as all electric heaters are 100% efficient. However they are indeed shite, and very expensive to run like all electric heating, no matter how efficient manufacturers claim their products are...

Stored heat from an Economy 7 or 10 tariff is going to cost less than direct electric heating due to the cost of day rate electricity. The problem is with the older storage heaters is that they leak heat. Modern HHR ones with fan assisted heat delivery are a fair bit better. Electric radiators whether panel heaters, oil filled or clay core will cost a fortune to run but are more controllable. They can be ok if the rooms are well insulated and small. I wouldn’t recommend them for stairwell or open plan room heating.

I've got central heating for practically nothing because people throw out these perfectly usable heaters as they don't understand how to use them and replace them with more expensive inefficient heaters! I knew in the first few seconds of the video these would not contain asbestos. You have just thrown out over £1000 worth of heaters that someone could have used.

Hi there and thanks for dropping by. It's always a very humbling experience when an expert like yourself decides to grace us with their presence and share their kind words of wisdom with such an ignorant audience. I would address your comments as follows: 1. I've got central heating for practically nothing - perhaps you ought to consider why so many people can't wait to dump these wretched things. You might get them on the cheap but your energy bills are going to be far higher than anyone else's. A false economy for sure 2. perfectly usable heaters - A Penny Farthing is a bicycle but it doesn't make it the best mode of transport does it? Yes they are heaters and useable. However, they are extremely inefficient and unreliable and take up a huge amount of space. Their output is also completely incompatible with their sheer size and weight. 3. people replace them with more expensive inefficient heaters - modern heaters are far more efficient and cheaper to run - that's a fact. You'd get more heat sticking a candle under a flower pot. 4. I knew in the first few seconds of the video these would not contain asbestos - why bother watching then? 5. You have just thrown out over £1000 worth of heaters - nonsense. They are practically worthless and people are giving them away because no one wants them. Even the scrap metal merchants weren't interested unless the bricks were removed first. Quite apart from that, the ones I had weigh over 30 stone. Want person with any modicum of sense would bother with these. You can get a cheap oil filled, mobile radiator from Aldi for £25.00 which has far more power and efficiency than one of these carbuncles.

Storage heaters use night rate electricity and enable you to heat your home all day the inefficiency in them is down to the user not knowing how to use them and by using the combi instant option
