I’ve done this for super heavy things in my garage, and it works very well, but for this project, an autopole is quick, easy, and movable.

This is great!! A baby plate, 2 grip heads, and extension arm could do the same thing. I do love the creativity and resourcefulness though. Your way is also probably cheaper haha

This is a great idea! I'm strongly considering using this method to mount mic booms for overheads/vocal booth!

Most important aspect of the DIY mindset when you´re a man: 1. Buy new craftman oriented or technical stuff for your studio. 2. Throw away manual! ( Very important !) 3. Fiddle with your new toys for a couple of hours with no succes! 4. Call customer service and complain about your new aquisition not working! P.S. Give us a heads up on the coming content. Contemporary work flow on how better to do your laundry in the digital age or..... :)

I think lighting and color grading is something that new youtubers forget or don't even know about. You don't need them when you start vloging etc but if you want to make the videos look great you definitely need to think especially lighting. But anyway great DIY mod!

Here's a few budget-minded tricks I've done in my home studio and for my wife's Paparazzi videos. For my wife, I bought the "Neewer" brand wall-mounted boom arms. They swing out of the way, and can rotate 180 degrees. They easily hold those bulky light boxes. You could probably use them for chin-ups if you wanted to. 😂 (Disclaimer: To anyone who takes everything literally, please don't actuallytry it..... I'm being silly. They arent made or even safe for lifting human beings. This is only sarcastic humor) Drum overheads: If you use the mini adapter that comes with most mic clips, you can convert the Neewer boom arm to use as an overhead mic boom. I did this in my home studio and it makes your mic placement a breeze. It can extend up to 4 feet, and easily adjustable up to 180 degrees side to side, and 45 degrees up/down. No more tripod overhead stands to trip over. No more light box stands to trip over. Cable management: They sell wire clips at Lowe's that you can nail to the sheetrock. I removed the nails and added gypsum board screws instead. They hold very well. I added multi-colored mic cables. They may look funny, but it makes it a breeze when mic'ing a drumset. I can literally just look at the mic and correspond it to the correct input on my interface.

Terrific idea. I’ve been mounting my overheads to the ceiling using the nipple flange I’ve seen you post, but I can only find flexible goosenecks to connect to it. What do you recommend for mounting mic stands to the ceiling? Is there a rigid boom stand that can attach to that common flange? Thanks for the great content as always!

Great idea Andrew! What size conduit strap/hangers did you use? I’m struggling to find them in the UK and those that I find are imported from the US. They are very expensive and I just want to get the correct size before ordering. I’m looking at using the last section of a mic stand to attach to my ceiling for overheads and possibly lights. Nice work. Why not hang your lights and other things with a unistrut wheeled trolley? Would be more flexible.
