YeeFit Gear & Review - This is a video that was requested on how I made my DIY Tyvek ground sheet for my camp chair. The Tyvek ground sheet is durable, waterproof, and easy to make. It will keep your chair from sinking into soft ground or sand at the beach and weights around 1.0 oz. depending on how much resources you use. #REI Flexlite Chair
The items that you will need for this DIY project include:

Thanks, Darren. I've always avoided these chairs due to their price and fact that I can sit on the ground a whole lot cheaper 😂 but, I found a brand new one just like yours at a local thrift store for $1 over the weekend and jumped on it. First off, I can't believe how light they really are! Secondly, I discovered the sinking disease yesterday while watching fireworks. I made sure I stopped today and bought a dollar tree tarp and duct tape and will be following your directions to make my ground sheet!

Awesome! I'm glad you were able to pick up a chair and it is pretty easy and affordable to make your very own personal ground sheet, Just remember to reinforce the corners, because depending on your size and weight the ducktape on the corners will stretch and wear out over time.

@@DarrenYee yeah, I bought heavy duty tape (basically gorilla tape) and plan to do top and bottom of floor corners, plus inside and out of the pockets just to make sure there are no failures on trip. I figure the little added weight won't really matter, so why not make it extra durable

I just made a couple of these using your plan. I made them out of an IKEA bag. We will see how they hold up! The bags are only 99 cents, so if they don’t last forever, I’m out a buck.

Great groundsheet hack. Do you think gorilla tape would work better than duck tape ? Has the corner pocket design held up or have improvements ? Thanks

Great question, I would put multiple layers of tape, because eventually it will stretch out. I haven't experimented with gorilla tape, but I do believe a strong stretchy cloth tape will be more durable. I have been using the same ground sheet for two years now and the corner pocket design to overlap the tyvek with the tape over it has endured. I think the main pressure points are at each of the feet where the corners meet the ground.

Thoughts on doing this with an old tarp instead of tyvek?

Hi Rob, I never thought of using an old tarp. I would say it depends on the material and weight. Plastic tarp may break down faster or disintegrate in the sun. Let me know if you decide to try and make one, Cheers!

Hi Rob, Sorry for the late response. An old tarp may work, but I worry about durability, after a while the plastic of a tarp becomes dry and brittle and does not stretch. Let me know if you give it a try. Happy trails!

Thanks for the great DYI project . Just wondering how it's been holding up and what you would change now ? Do you know who sells those tyvek envelopes or uses them for shipping ? I'm in Canada so not so familiar with it . Thanks

I just got a chair zero so now I'm catching up on the videos. Is it ok to put his in a backpack where it will get crinkled?

Hello, Thanks for the question. If you are using tyvek paper, it is perfectly fine being smashed, crinkled, and rolled. I have even wash the ground sheet after getting it pretty muddy. I usually roll the groundsheet up with the chair and seat for storage so that it doesn't get lost.
