If you have a variety of cordless tools, it's impossible to have too many different kind of chargers. In this video I'll show you how to charge any cordless tool battery with a Turnigy Accucell charger (which is usually used for charging RC batteries). Save your money on the original chargers and the clutters of keeping them around.
This charger will need a 12V power source. Here's how to power it with a computer Power Supply: • How to use a Computer ...

Man! Thank you so much for this demo! Solved all my probles with the dam chargers. I was using a Hobbico (12V) for 12 V packs, but this Turnigy is much better. To power the Turnigy, i used an old Vaio notebook Powersupply, output 16V 3.9A. Thx again, man.

Hello friend, I'm Wikkid or Danny and I wanted to thank you now for the second time, no it's the third. In case you don't have telepathy, I will rundown my thanks in chronological order real quick. First time I viewed your video you earned my sub after you help me get a deeper understanding of brushless motor controllers that I needed to upgrade my Bolt Pro. Kept watching other videos you posted and saw that you were running a high voltage cordless tool battery on your eBike. So when I found a 40v 6aH battery for $10, I just had to follow your lead and that Hart battery is still running as my girl's primary battery still. We both thank you on that one on #2. And tonight I'm looking to understand how to charge a 56v battery using a 58v charger and find out how the Echo smart charger works cuz it didn't start charging when I connected them directly together. I'm still looking for how the Echo works, but I saw your video about using a Teniagy charger to recharge basically any normally volted battery. I don't think you can pull 56v from a computer PSU without swapping a transformer or something. IDK how either. So there that's my 3 thanks I send your way. We have a lot of common interests and things we like to create and build. You live in Florida too? That would be starting to seem like fate was playing part of this, but who really knows. Oh and if you wondered where I got a brand new still in package Hart 40v 6aH battery, it was from a person I know who sells a wide variety of items at the largest flea market in the South East on a Wednesday. So now I'm going to see how much a variable Teniagy charger is and find my field multi-chemistry charger to see if it will work for such voltages. I revive lithium-ion batteries that people have run down too far and give them a second go round. Most people think they are faulty and sometimes they are. But usually it's the BMS or a single cell or handful of em causing the problem. But this is all prob things you consider childs play and are light years ahead of where I am leveling right now. Maybe someday our paths will cross and we can shake each others hand. I just wanted to express my admiration and send my genuine thanks in a wholehearted way, so I think I did that. Later, Wikkid.

My craftsman chargers for my 19.2 lithium batteries must have gotten moisture etc in them as won't put out current. I also need to revive many older lithium 12, 15 & 19 volt Craftsman batteries a nd am going to try giving them a zap with one of my auto battery chargers unless you have a better way when they won't take a charge as they are completely dead. Thanks again and it's been years since I converted a pc power supply so looking forward to that video... Jerry

Nice, I use an IMAX B6 to charge various drill batteries from different manufacturers. Going a step further, I have the IMAX connected to the 12 volt output on my solar power station, so I charge them up with a small solar panel. I found this video looking into the aspect of adding balance charging to the process. However, from what I've seen, apparently, very few drill batteries are actually wired up for the complete balance charging a B6 can do anyway.

If you don't have an original Milwaukee charger, this is probably the best way to charge as long as you keep the current low. Milwaukee doesn't charge through the middle pin as some have said. That is a temp sensor. The other two inner connectors are for communication. The board inside the battery does have some balancing circuitry but does so slowly. Rapid chargers would rely on the temp sensor and communication to pause charging if the battery gets too hot or out of balance. I'm not a fan of rapid charging anyway as it shortens the life of your batter pack. But if you are a pro and time is money, it's probably better to buy new batteries often than sit around waiting for yours to charge. I'm planning on building a charging station out of an old Dewalt case where each charger will have CC/CV buck converter with some type of temp cutoff. It will also cut off if I close the lid. That way you can leave them in there and take the whole thing with you. I'll use 3d printed holders for charging so I can mix and match. I wont do a video but I may do an instructable. That way I can get feedback on how to improve it.

Yeah, he is long winded BUT if you've got somebody who's not comfortable with doing something like this, it is reassuring. I have no issues with his method (which is what counts--his method that is) as I use my Triton 2 battery charger (for RC batteries) and as long as you know the capacity of the battery (hard to find sometimes as not all mfg's are forthcoming with these stats), you can use this type of charger with clips. And use your polarity tester (or something similar) to test for + and - as these are not usually marked on the battery.

Come back a few times to watch this, and thank you kindly for taking the time to film/edit for others. However, a question: Is there a decent diagram someplace for the wiring of a 5s battery used to deliver 18.5v? That is to say, WITH the balance charger leads integrated inside? I’m using An IMAX b6, which is essentially the same thing you have there. I also have the 5s plug, but just want to make sure I’m not screwing myself. As you say, makita batteries are terrible, and for some reason I ended up with about 15 power tools without chargers, or the chargers and no batteries. Am hoping to modify them all to take a universal. Just need to be sure of my attack plan for wiring. Any link is appreciated

use your volt meter. The + and - terminals are on the outer most sides. If your volt meter shows negative sign then reverse it until you don't see any negative sign on the volt meter. Then you will know which side is positive and which side is negative.

0.5A is half an amp not five amps. Big difference! Charging at 0.5A is appropriate as chosen by the charger unit. Also, charging this way without using a balancing circuit is ok for a while but eventually the battery pack Will start underperforming as individual cells become less than optimized. The balancing circuit is there for a reason.

Vu said "point five amp", you hearing impaired clown; the charger's LCD clearly says 0.5A at the point in the video (8:08) you so foolishly called attention to. Moreover, this video clearly shows a technique to be used in a pinch (e.g. charging a battery that has no remaining monetary value, or even an available charger), not a method by which to charge packs you really give a fuck about. To that point, many of those random tool packs probably ALREADY have cellular imbalance, thus why Vu even has them. Honestly, it's like you just spew this garbage to make yourself feel smart by denigrating others who you're too fucking stupid to even listen to in the first place. Shag you in the arse with a chainsaw, and make sure you start it first! Oh, and to "Codie": Do you think matched towels dry your dirty Irish arse better than mismatched ones? Jesus Christ.

@vuaeco
@vuaeco 9 жыл бұрын
***** I think the Dewalt batteries have the same pin out as the turnigy balance charger. So you just have to find the correct order of the balance leads on the batteries. But you don't have to balance charge it. Just use the positive and negative leads to charge it. Making the other leads for balance charging will take you a lot of time and there will be wires and wires hanging out and around. The chance of it getting shorted out is real! I'm not sure if the time invested in that and a risk of getting the system short out is worth it? Your call.

vuaeco Thank you so much for your reply! I want to use the Turnigy as the only way to charge my batteries as I go off-grid and the original charger broke aswell. My concern is that i might damage the cells by not balancing them ... ever. To avoid the problem of having to deal with the loose contacts i would just reuse the enclosure of the broken charger and wire up a balancing cord to the appropriate pins. Here is what gives me a headache: The balance cord has 6 leads for a 5S pack. The DeWalt pack has only 5 pins in total named: (B+) (TH ID) (C1 C2) (C3 C4) (B-) How could I go about wiring this?

Hello, With your method, you are connecting only the positive and negative from the power supply to the + - terminals of the battery and do not use any of the balancing terminals. For example, the Milwaukee red battery has 3 terminals in addition to the + and -. I tried your technique with my Ryobi 18V Li batteries. The tool stops working when battery is down to 18V. The battery has 3 terminals/ contacts marked + and - and third is unmarked (call it Y). The meter reads 18V (fully charged is 20.5) between each of + and - / + and Y. Nothing between - and Y. By your method, simply applying a charge between + and - or between + and Y should work but it does not. I applied 20.4V and the battery did not change. Looking at the original charger (I borrowed). It has 3 terminals corresponding to the battery's 3. When the charger is plugged in with no battery in it, meter reads Y as positive and there is 3V between Y to + or Y to -. Any one has suggestions? Thanks.

Depends on the tool...roto hammers last 15 minutes of continuous use, not weeks. Higher end packs balance in the pack, and have specific pins for charging and dont use the pins directly connected to the cells in series. Those are for output to tool only.

Joey Priddy what you gotta do is take the 18v battery off the 18v li-on porter cable drill.. so now all you have is a porter cable drill.. right? Ok gold the drill and set the 18v battery down(DONT DROP IT) ok now with that same hand grab your 20v.. do you feel the excitement? Now.. this the the most important part so whatever you do.. DONT FUCK THiS UP!! If you fuck it up then it won’t work now or later.. line the 20v up to the drill where the 18 came from.. line up all the slots.. now push it on there? After you confirm with yourself that the batteries aren’t the same.. go ahead and go get some sleep and maybe tomoro you will learn other common sense DIY activities! Oh.. almost forgot.. good luck on that tomoro!

@@vuaeco I definitely will, as I love your videos. Sadly though, after two days of communication with HK, they claim that you cannot perform any type of charge on any Lithium based battery pack (2s+) without balance leads connected. They must have upgraded the firmware between now and when you made this video. Not only is the instruction manual vague, but even one of HK techs told me I shouldn't need balance leads connected if I wasn't balance charging and that I should RMA the unit, as it must be malfunctioning. The response to my RMAwas that I was told incorrect information and that it is functioning as intended. The responder also stated that's the only way to make it perform as such would be to "hack" the unit, to which he did not recommend as it would void the warranty. For the last three years, I have collected many batteries in an attempt to repurpose or repair them with this charger (or iMaxB6) as well as have an all-in-one charger, it seems, at this point, I have a glorified Pb/SLA, Ni-Cd/Nimh charger that will charge single Lithium based batteries (18650) unless I build individual balance harnesses for each brand/type/pinout. I just wish this was made clear by HK or the Turnigy Accucel 6 manual/website before I purchased one. I'm just trying to get this information out there so other people's time does not get wasted like mine has been. Please keep in mind that this video being so high up in the search results, with the newest model of the Turnigy Accucel 6, this video is now inaccurate and/or misleading.

Sil if you look at the specification list for the Turnigy Accucell 50W charger you will see the following: Input Voltage: 11~18v Circuit Power: Max Charge: 50W / Max Discharge: 5W Charge Current Range: 0.1~6.0A Balance Cells: 2-6 cells NiMH/NiCd Cells: 1~15 LiHV /LiIon/LiPoly Cells: 1~6 Pb battery Voltage: 2~20v Weight: 240g So your power supply into this unit needs to between 11-18v DC. That is why he connected his charger up to his computer power supply as it takes 110-240V AC and converts it to 12V DC which is the required Input Voltage range for the Turnigy charger. Putting 120v into your charger is 10x more than it needs and it needs to be DC not AC. That is why if you are using a mains supply you need to step the voltage down to 12V and then convert the output current from AC to DC which is what the Power Supply unit does [110-240V AC input to 12V DC output] kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oKqlq6l2zNq3cYU.html

If you want to revive dead batteries. Look up a tutorial on yt at replacing cells. This will mean buying 18650 lipos and opening the battery case and installing new batteries, unfortunately you can't revive dead cells. Also don't discharge lipos past 30%. That damages the cells

the fourth contact is thermal sensor for the official charger. The thing with ryobi lithium batteries is that they pulse charge to let the BMS balance every 10sec... so yeah not possible to charge them with an imax b6. or you would have to restart the charge every 10 seconds manually

You can stick in one side of the spade, leaving the other side out to clamp your alligator clip to. www.homedepot.com/p/Tyco-Electronics-Spade-Vinyl-16-14-AWG-Stud-8-10-75-Clam-EB0268-000/202204282 Later edit cause "spade terminal" covered to many types apparently. Brad Baker. You can take 18650 cells. One cell 4.2volt. Take what you need for the total voltage. Try looking up bms for 3s and 4s. These bms have a overcharge cut off and undervoltage cut off. Now you can charge them with a normal charger through the bms. Just plus and minus. For a 4s its 14.8volts what your charger needs to output.
