Keeping chickens is a way to bring a little bit of the farm into your backyard. This guide will show you how to build a small DIY coop, sized for up to four chickens. Check out our guide to learn more: thd.co/3x1PMET
This video features a roost where your birds will sleep, and a removable nesting box where they’ll lay eggs. The front door becomes a ramp for the chickens to go in and out, while the back opens wide for easy access for cleaning and egg gathering.

I love how simple the design is and maximizing the use of all the wood. One thing I’d change is to use a natural stick as a roost as birds often get arthritis from gripping the same girth roosting pole all day and night, something to consider if you love your birds

What would be the best is if there was a list of the supplies you could buy already cut ❤❤❤

Whatever you do, don't try to cut all the stuff out of the first piece of plywood like he says. Look at the backdoor and the floor he has, they are the same length in the picture but different measurements. If you try, you will come up 3 inches short. The instructions on the website in the description lay it out much better.

I found this tutorial and thought it would be easy enough to do myself and a good size for a couple chickens, and it WOULD be good if the instructions weren't repeatedly incorrect. I've bought most of the materials and started making cuts, so at this point I'm committed, otherwise I would not continue making this. I haven't finished, but here are the issues I have come across so far: - Materials lists says to get 3/8-inch exterior rated plywood, but that is not a thickness of treated plywood Home Depot sells and I wasn't able to find it anywhere. - Material list says you need ten 2x4- inch pieces of lumber, I was able to make all the needed cuts with nine - Material list says you need three 1x2-inch pieces of lumber, you need five - Material list says you need 2 galvanized barrel bolts (window bolts), but they are never referenced or used in the instructions, I can't see where they would go in the video or any pictures (the doors are closed with tee hinges) - The graphics showing the 1x2 lumber cuts don't match the instructions or the provided hyperlinked diagrams - The six ramp rungs cuts are listed as being 14 inches and then 4 inches in the instructions I wouldn't recommend trying to just this tutorial unless they make edits to correct it. Also, after researching chickens more this doesn't seem big enough for the 4 chickens its says, unless you bought a smaller bread, the roost is a 2x2 but everything I've seen says they prefer a 4 inch roost and the tee hinges on the doors wouldn't keep any predators out, so the whole coop would need to be protected in other ways.

Would be nice if you showed the list of things needed in your description too. That way we don't have to keep trying to find it in the video & play/pause/play to get it all copied down

@erinhasker3720 it's a video....what pages are you talking about?
@erinvela1555

At the end of the "VIDEO" around 8:28, there are (pages) with writing on them. On those pages are lists of things to get, which you will need for the project. He made it very simple. He even mentions it in his VIDEO that he will share those pages at the end of the VIDEO My suggestion was to screen shot each page, as that is a very simple approach and cuts out you having to write anything down. that being said, I'm not a complete moron and am quite confident in my ability to differentiate between a video and a page. Perhaps not being a smart-ass to someone attempting to help you would go a lot further. Then again, your comment to begin with was mostly assanine, just due to the fact of had you watched the entire VIDEO you would have seen the pages and would not had to of made a 2nd ignorant comment, to people attempting to help you.

Ventilation. If you close that up at night they have no ventilation. If they are not in at night, they are in danger of predation.

Totally agree - a terrible (but fast and easy - so Home Depot loves it) design. I am just getting into chickens but from what I've researched there aren't any features here that I would copy.

I don't believe that 2x2 roost will hold the 30 to 40 lbs of chicken. If this is for 4 chickens...nah. Maybe bantams.
