Transformer Coil Winding Machine
Feeder axis - the lead screw ( M8 )has a pitch of 1,25 mm per rotation.

- pic18f4550 based controller Project from : www.theprojectasylum.com
- Stepper Motor drivers SLA7024 and SLA7025
Version 2
- Mach3

Upgrade :
- Spindle Motor and driver Tb6600 .
- Parallel interface .
- Reduction 1:3 MXL Toothed Pulley Wheel- Power supply .

Exactly the video I was looking for! two important things for me: the gcoil program and the felt thread tensioning system. I'm going to wind some audio transformers for tube amplifiers! thanks!

Oh my you must wind a lot of coils! This thing is built way more complicated than I am building mine. But I am not winding a lot. I first looked at that stepper and was like... oh my is he driving a tank. Now I see why. Those spools are huge! The winding on that transformer is absolutely perfect! Epic Build!

absolute work of art. well done mate. love watching transformers wound. definately for a valve application looking at the 6.3v outputs for the heaters.

yeah the machine is great but the video quality is crap. slide shows are nearly useless, and about as informative as the word "thingy". a human voice talking about the machines construction would be 10 billion percent more informative. i got parts from a printer i can use but without more information than silent bob trying to explain brain surgery its going to take more trial and error than I'd like. not everyone has a $10,000 budget to blow on mistakes..

Nice design and video. Great looking multi-layer coils. I'm in the process of building a coil winder to wind orthocyclic coils, which is more difficult than linear coils, but produces more punch for a given space. I'll have to make a video when I've got the code (directly controlled, not using gcode) spot on. Keeping near perfect tension vs speed is one of the hardest parts.

How do you apply the insulating layers? Do you just stop the process in between layers and attach them manually?

that's whats wrong with this video... no vocal explanation on the parts so your left with saying "plastic shapes" instead of a specific part. if you mean the wheels it very likely a custom part. i can make some on my mini lathe with delrin. although that doesn't help you much. sorry.

Beautiful, nice work ! Respect !!! I realize it's been some time since the creation, but I would like to know. Is it not more convenient to make control on the microcontroller, because Mach3 is still CNC, and winding coils requires manual intervention :). Brake end tensioner pads are made of genuine thick leather.
