Mine did explode, probably the loudest explosion I've ever heard. My neighbours called me to see if I was alright. My advice is, if possible please change your 1.5l coke/soda bottle at least once a month. My mistake was leaving it up to three months because it seemed to be okay. Please don't let my experience deter you from using DIY Co2 though. Just remember to change the bottles every once in a while.

I have used this type of system for years. The MOST important thing IMHO is to very accurately measure your ingredients. If you do that you will not run into over pressure situations. Also since the bottles vastly exceed the pressure ability of the tubing/connectors it is not really possible to over-pressure the bottles. I have had tubing hop off it's fitting on occasion and burn all my chemicals but there is almost no chance of the bottles bursting. In my area bottled CO2 is unworkable and I have used this method to great success.

Hey, I love your videos man. I stumbled on your channel a couple days ago and I'm really inspired to start a planted tank! I'm debating the size between a 20 gallon long and a 40 gallon breeder tank. Is a 40 gallon tank too ambitious for a first aquarium? Space is a little tight in my apartment, but I can make it work and it's not really a money issue. I've read comparisons online and it seems like both tanks are great honestly. I'm sure I'll be happy with either choice and who knows maybe I'll end up with both tanks eventually.

I bought this same kit but I would like to use it with the yeast. I don't have citric acid. Can I do that? if I fix the hoses? I understand the yeast side hose will be short and not into liquid, and that side has the valve. And the water cleaner side with just the water will have just a hose down into water, and air will bubble up out of water and go out the other hole on the lid. Does this sound correctly done,
@TheWaterBox

I'm not sure if it'll work correctly with yeast as it uses a different type of reaction. I just never tried it with a yeast mix this way. With used I used a single containter and mixed it with sugar and yeast. It reacts much slower than the way explained here.

@milanswoboda5457
@milanswoboda5457 3 жыл бұрын
IMO the chances of the bottles exploding are very slim however you could run into the issue of CO2 overdosing especially with smaller tank set-ups if the overpressure goes undetected for some time. One thing though, if there is overpressure it would be better to relieve the pressure on the citric acid reactant bottle (A) since relieving it on the baking soda reactor bottle (B) will push more citric acid into it which will be generating even more CO2 gas.

If you turn it off it should be fine, but if you leave it running it may build pressure. That sounds weird but as the co2 leaves bottle B it creates a lower pressure which draws in acid from bottle A which reacts forming more co2. If you let out 1 ml of co2 (measured outside) you will draw in 1ml of acid. But that acid will react to form more co2 than was let out (the volume of the acid can create a greater volume of co2 because gas is less dense however in this situation it is forced into a smaller space increasing the pressure). Given the quantities involved, it is very unlikely you would be able to get the pressure needed to destroy the bottle unless it had some defect. And, as stated in the video, the tubing would pop before the bottle.

Gotta fix the needle valve or get a new DIY contraption. It control the output of your Co2. If that doesn't work, the whole thing doesn't work. Did you screw in the dial too tight or something?

I actually can't as I haven't done that in years. Google it for a recipe. There are ones out there that uses sugar and yeast combo.

i still dont get why i cant run this on my 75. Like a plants grow with just about no co2 why cant i just give them a little? Why is it run 30ppm or none? Like why cant i just build one of these diy setups and set it to one bubble a second?

Try it. No one is stopping you! It'll help, especially if you got good diffusion. Good luck!

@@TheWaterBox I watched a lot of your videos on badger airbrushes about a year ago when I needed 1, I now only really use Badger, even my H&S Infinity CR Plus which was my dream airbrush was a letdown in my eyes in comparison to my Omni 4000, I'm now trying to get into fish keeping with a 90L tank to start, I believe people in USA call it a 20gal high tank, I'm jumping more into deepend and trying to go planted from day 1 then after 4-8 weeks start adding my fish

@@TheWaterBox The light I've found is 24W 7500K LED unit, unfortunately I don't know a whole lot more about it, I'm trying to stick to a budget on this tank, if I don't enjoy fish keeping that much I haven't laid out a lot of money but if I do enjoy them then I've got more money for a bigger setup next year, as for plants thats something along with fish I'm stumped on, I'm not sure if I should decide on fish first then plants, or plants and then fish ?

@@Zillawill What size tank are we talking about? I always suggest going low tech with low light demanding plants. It's cheaper and won't make your head blow up. It'll get you the experience in what you need to do and learn how to grow plants and then you can jump into a larger and more complicated set up later. I'm making a very simple "jump into planted" tanks videos in the next week. This series should help you though: kzfaq.info/sun/PLl7jTu1aWwVYalG6gOJ-2T9_V23kqo44_
