Very wonderful.
The heat conduction of a copper made coffee roaster is overwhelming.

Sir, your are a great guy. Super . I love it. bUT problem is every body cannot do this.. Besides a common problem in this is center balancing - since the drum is not exactly balanced in the center -it may slightly hobble / may revolve ecentric. Neverthless it is great.

Thanks a lot, i'm planning on making one of this but for 5-10kg. Im planning on using infrared burners. Also how's exhaust for this type of system?
@falaiso
@falaiso 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. The aroma tends to be a little heavier because forced exhaust control is not possible. The roasting results are in contrast to the hot air method roasting, which is a common trend these days.

This is really cool but isn't it maybe better to use some sort of electric heater element and p.i.d temperature controller to control the roasting degree?

This roasting drum is a minimum configuration with a very orthodox which took particular note of enjoying intuitive coffee roasting. In pursuit of being intuitive, even drum rotation should be done with our own hands :)

Hi - Great idea - Have you tried more distance to flames? Would that give a gentler more even roast?
@falaiso
@falaiso 3 жыл бұрын
Your reasoning is very accurate. Good results can be obtained by raising the drum position by 30 mm. And it's even more controllable!

@@falaiso It helps if you start out with the most precise measurements which you can do. Also, instead of using a tin can you could simply turn two discs on a lathe, then screw a continuous copper sheet onto them. The turning allows you to mark and drill exactly at the center. You don't need to do it directly with metal - you can turn two wooden discs, drilling a hole in their center in the process, then screw two copper sheets between them and simply cut/grind the overhang until you reach the edge of the wooden discs. What you get is two nearly perfect copper discs with a center hole on each.

1. Reduces roasting beans from becoming too smoky. 2. Remove the chaff out of the drum to make it easier to heat the beans. It may be a little, but it is an effort to improve the result.

Copper is good! Slits may not be needed. Thank you.
@a0flj0
@a0flj0 7 ай бұрын
I didn't try it, but I expect mesh to be better when roasting with hot air and copper to work better over flame - hot air doesn't overheat the beans where it hits them, a flame might, since it's much hotter.

Thank you Falaiso! I saw it from your others video after I posted the comment. Are you still using Aluminium container for roasting? I saw some comment saying Aluminium can be toxic in high temperature. I am thinking to make one simple roaster without modify with Copper plate. But I am worry about toxic. :D
@falaiso
@falaiso 6 жыл бұрын
I do not have the education of Materials engineering. So I can not respond to you reliably. It is very disappointing. However, it is strongly recommended to use a copper plate if it is easy to obtain the copper plate. Thank you for watching my videos carefully. I will upload videos of funny tools next month so please watch it!

@@laiguankeat9027 You don't reach the temperatures at which the aluminum reacts with coffee, during roasting. You'd need to bring aluminum closer to its melting point, so that the aluminum oxide layer on its surface, which is extremely hard, scratch resistant and chemically inert, and therefore insulates the metallic aluminum from the coffee, becomes damaged, to allow the metallic aluminum to react with the beans. Aluminum is indeed bad for your health, but calling it toxic is an exaggeration - you have to ingest quite a lot of it before it has any effect.

@@falaiso I'd go with plain black iron pipe. At those temperatures, alloy elements from the stainless steel - nickel in particular - might become loose and attached to the coffee. True, the quantity is less than tiny, but nickel is a frequently used alloy element and it's also highly damaging for the health. It's safe in stainless steel pots, because those supposedly you don't heat above the boiling temperature of water, but you do reach much higher temperatures during roasting. Plain iron, OTOH, is completely harmless. You could, in principle, eat a spoon of rust without any danger other than sudden high acidity in your stomach - that would be the stomach's reaction, not any acidity in the iron oxide. You don't even assimilate a lot of iron from rust, and the quantity of iron you'd get from the beans touching the spoon is anyway too small to count.
