I think you missed a part. Once the cornice is resting on top of the L brackets, do you screw the screws in from the bottom up? This looks like it could be difficult to do. You would first need to drill holes especially if the cornice is made of wood. This could become quite the task holding the screw gun up over your head and trying to attach the screws.

Thank you. I was wondering how to put one of these together and fit to the wall. I lived in a house which had these pelmets made of hardboard ( 1950's UK - it seems they were all the fashion). My current house the curtains are open and ugly. Pelmets will sort it out. I can do these. I have painted mine though, not fabric covered them.

OK. My question is, how to do this if I plan on removing it later on to change out blinds, etc.? I don't want to be removing screws to take the cornice board down.

Hello....Awhile back in a pervious post you stated when attaching a cornice board "Be careful if the rods are functional like traverse rods". Why would a traverse rod cause a clearance issue. If so, what should the clearance be between a cornice board and traverse rod. Thanks

Whats the rule of thumb of locating the cornice board bracket so that it clears the drapery rod and drapery?
@DIYHIPChicks
@DIYHIPChicks 9 жыл бұрын
+Tony Cellucci Tony you can hang it slightly higher or wider than the drapery rods. Be careful if the rods are functional like traverse rods. If stationary panels or sheers go under cornice, it is easier. I often add 1.5 inches to each side for sheers/panels clearance. YOu can go wider if panels are full enough to cover dead space to side of window trim. Does this help? LMK if you have other questions

Hi Hazel Green. It is tough to be specific as people's home vary. I leave 1.5 inches between window frame and interior of cornice. Height depends on how big your cornice is. I have a full detailed paid course on cornice boards but this is my free version of guidance. Hope your project turns out beautifully!

If it is going over a vertical 80" wide, how large should I make it???
@DIYHIPChicks
@DIYHIPChicks 8 жыл бұрын
If cornice is that wide I do like to increase height for better proportion. I use valance standards a guideline typically 14-17 inches high. Pine boards are easily bought at 12 inches wide but If i want to go 15-17 inches I buy 1/4 inch plywood sheet. Home Depot will rip it to your dimension and usually will do it for free. I would do 15-17 inches but measure and see where the bottom of the cornice falls in line with the window grills. See that it looks porportional I hope that make sense

Using L brackets to attach to the wall is a window treatment industry standard. It is neat, easy and makes sure you don't see any hardware. Good Luck
