It can be intimidating to clean natural stone like marble or granite. These surfaces are expensive and can be easily ruined during the cleaning process.
In this video, cleaning expert Melissa Maker shares her simple, inexpensive DIY Natural Stone Cleaner to help you get super-clean and streak-free counters!

Hi, Melissa! Thank you for two awesome channels!🖒I'd like to know if it is possible to use castille soap (or partly plant and animal oil based soap) instead of dish soap in this recipe? Thanks in advance=)

All the professionals recommend to only ever use dish soap and water and then rinse and then dry with a towel right away. There’s a couple specific commercial products but they aren’t widely available and are super expensive. The countertop and stone people recommend to only ever use soap and water and to clean any food and liquid you get on them up right away. Anything to acidic or basic can end up etching the stone!

I am so glad I came across your channel. I have been looking for a safe, inexpensive cleaners for a while. I made this recipe and oh my goodness, game changer!! Thank you so much for sharing. I love this cleaner so I just purchased the 50 recipes. I see in that pdf for this recipe it says 3/4 of a cup of water but the video has 1 3/4 of a cup of water?? Is this an error in the pdf and if so is there a way I can get a pdf without the error? Thank you!

@@larsonfamilyhouse they said the pdf version is preferred. I used the one in the video and it works well. Next time I make it I will try the other version and see what I like better (hope this helps).

Get an RO filter either for your countertop or built in and just use that kind of water. I like to just use warm soapy water and then rinse, that’s what most experts recommend, you have to be careful tha5 things aren’t too acid or basic or it can etch the stone!

Thank you. May be obvious, is this safe for Quartz countertops? I keep finding conflicting information on what's safe and what's not.

Ditto on the conflicting info online. The guy who installed our quartz said to put a few drops of Dawn on the counter, wipe down with a wet microfiber cloth and dry with a towel. And if I wanted, I could use the green antibacterial Dawn, but the blue Dawn cuts grease much better. It has been about four years, and my quartz counters look shiny and beautiful. I use the purple Makers microfiber for wiping down and the grey towel for drying off. Honestly as long as this works I’m not going to bother making it more complicated.

I’d ask the countertop guy! From what I can see for rocks in general you don’t want something too acidic or too basic or it will etch it so no vinegar or bleach- I’m going to use soapy water and then rinse a couple times just to err on the side of caution. I’d also recommend never using orange essential oil as it can go rancid, especially in the warmer weather

I looked into it and all the pros say use dish soap and water and then rinse. There’s a few commercial products that are okay because they have a specifically ph but they’re SUPER expensive. So basically for granite, marble, and quartz a soapy water wash then rinse is the only way. And be sure to dry right after rinsing because they are all very porous!

Have been looking for a diy marble cleaner for our new kitchen and this one works great! Leaves a shiny finish w no streaks or suds! I followed the recipe: 1 & 3/4 cups of water 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol Essential oil (20 drops worked perfectly) I used lavender essential oil instead of orange since I'm afraid to use anything citrus for the marble even though I read the pH of citrus essential oil is neutral and not acidic I'm still afraid as Ive read other sources that said not to use it and i don't have any ph test strips. It smelled super fresh and amazing w the lavender essential oil!! Thank you Melissa! I think this will become my new favorite cleaner!

Also orange can go rancid especially if your house is hot! I purchased orange spray to keep bugs and spiders away and sprayed it ALL over my house especially by doors etc years ago and it worked well and smelled super good until a week or two later when my house turned into a rotten orange! I had sprayed it on carpet and everywhere and didn’t have a way to access a shampooed UGH I’m always so surprised that no one else seems to have ever had this happen! I’m never using orange essential or a product with it like that EVER AGAIN! And the product I used was maybe 10-15 years ago commercially available and the best one on the market with great reviews. After that and a failed attempt spraying some bug b gone liquid from the hardware store around the house peremeter I pressured the landlord into calling a professional to come spray chemicals everywhere lol dried chemicals are far less worse for you than most spider bites- I know someone who almost lost their leg and another who never stopped being bites by hobo spiders because once one bites you they seek you out forever! Plus there were earwigs coming in from heaven knows where and other what I can only describe as crustaceans like scorpions and sand puppies. Glad I finally moved from that hell to a different one LOL GOOD LUCK!
