Thank you so much!! I have a Bear X Trek 380 Xbow and i've been scared to use it after trying to use hard core straw bales for target practice and it buried the bolts. I had to wait until we cut the bales open for kidding season to retrieve my bolts. I had asked someone else about making a target and they said 2 inch building Styrofoam and plywood. These at least look like they won't cause shaft shock to my bolts.

Great information! My new Xbow arrived today. I shot into my archery target, and it went so deep the fletching on the bolt got damaged. AND there's a hole in my garage. LOL I checked online, and saw a portable target at Walmart for $24. It's small and easy to miss. But it really stops a bolt! It says that it's safe to de-cock a crossbow by shooting point blank into it. So I figured that it would work well. And it does!

Is that the neighbors camper you are using as a backstop ?

Thank you, I got the exact same crossbow today, a target in New Zealand is 400$ NZD, so I'll be popping down Kmart tomorrow for some foam. I once made a motorcycle seat from their yoga mats ,🤣

Hey, I found a better method is to take a.bunch of old clothes and stuff them into a box. Than tape up the box.. easier to get arrows out and stops heavy bows

I used spray foam and rubber mats. It works really good for broadheads xbow or longbow or comp bow

Its a great idea and works great. I made a reusable wood case to put them in, looks much better and no tape. Print out some targets and stick'm on.

A better, cheaper, long lasting (forever) backstop is a pile of sand. The bolts are easy to pull out and you can use broad heads too. Take a 5 gallon bucket and fill it with water to put beside the sand. After each shot just swish the bolt in the water to clean off the sand. If your bolts are going too deep into the pile use blunts.

I used to use sand for shooting broadheads out of my vertical bow. I just got a crossbow today (405 fps) & need a target. I was thinking about getting sand but wasn't sure my bolt wouldn't get buried. Do you think sand would stop my broadhead tipped bolt before getting to the fletching? BTW, I used to use and old toothbrush to clean the broadheads & a rag for the shafts as I walked back from the target.

@@MrWhiltetail I've used a toothbrush myself and it works but the water works better. 3 seconds and the bolt is clean and ready to go. My friend has a crossbow that supposedly shoots 415. It does go in quite deep and so the blunts are a better choice. Broadheads don't go in as deep but the sand is pretty rough on replaceable blade heads out of a crossbow. I've been using Carbon Express Quad Pro Lung Busters and they can take hundreds of shots into the sand without any problem. They are also quite inexpensive. Good luck this season.

I have never in my life heard of this. Had I known is certainly have been doing it. Thanks

Great sentiment but positively terrible for your bolts and bow.. Duct tape glue residue will gum up everything eventually.. Even still though, I appreciate the innovation and time sharing your idea.. This is fine if you clean your bolts thoroughly with something appropriate after each shot to avoid long term maintenance issues..

Have u had trouble with friction having the arrows melt the plastic from the Matt's an having residue plastic on bolts

A box stuffed with old clothes and rags works amazingly well too, just needs to be deep enough (might need a foot for very fast flying bolts?). Oh, and a box of rubber mulch stops rifle rounds (about 7 or so inches deep?). I use both of these but have not tested minimum depths.

I use a laundry basket, stuffed with cloths and wrapped in duct tape
@Zendail3 жыл бұрын
So I made this and my arrows get covers in duct tape too, repeated shots are neigh impossible to pull out.

Hi,i wonder if you had 3 cushions from an old couch stack them together and wrap them with 2 rolls of duct tape.I Have an excalibur 340 td that i purchased over a week ago havent tried it yet

Hey, this idea works but there is a better one.. either go buy a brick of rags or go through a stranger's closet and steal a bag of cloths. Pack them into a box or tote and tape it up. Works amazing!
