DIY Hexagon Wedding Arch
I made this wedding arch for a very close friend of mine who is getting married this year. I took it on as way to prove to myself I could do it and ultimately had a lot of fun doing so.

- (8) 2" x 4" x 14'

Good video thanks, i have a question. I build one my self but when i cut all sides 30° same length at the end one side becomes short. I dont know what im doing wrong. Eventually i cut the last side shorter then the others.

Good question! It’s likely that the angles when you cut them might be a tad off the 30° angle to get the 60° cut. If that’s the case and the angle is cut larger like 35° (example) the last side will be shorter.. even a 1° will amplify the last cut. If you are within a few inches you can squeeze them together to make the edges touch. I had a similar issue but I was able to push the pieces together. How far out were you?

what angle should you cut for your corners

In short: 30° In long: If you want a hexagon each corner is 120° which means each board angle needs to be 60°(120°/2). So you have to set your miter saw to 30°, In order to get 60°

Really nice and different . Can you tell me if this is detachable and If if is what did you use to make it detachable ?

Hi! Yes it is detachable. I used pocket hole square screws to connect the hexagons with one another. Check out min 5:50 to see the joined piece. You’ll have 6 total sides and then you can transport them that way( check out min 6:40 to see how it would look). Check out min 7:48 to see how I connected the 6 pieces. I hope that helps but it does make a difference in transportation since the arch is so big and doesn’t really fit in my house.

Imperial Everything hi! Each cut for one side of the hexagon measures 54 3/4”. The joining boards that combine the hexagon measures 12”. I hope that answers your question. But if you have any other please let me know, I’m happy to help!

How much did it cost to buy the wood

It was roughly $120 but you could do it for half so about $60 and still do a double hexagons but not as thick for each beam. I hope that makes sense. I bought 2x4 I think it was 16ft pieces. If you’re going to Home Depot or Lowe’s they usually have a cutting center with a saw and they will cut it for you for free.

Hey do you remember your dimensions on this? How wide was the base on the inside?

I measured out a 12” inside piece between both sides of the arch. It worked fine standing alone but I added sandbags for the day of the wedding. You could go thicker but I wouldn’t recommend going thinner than 12”
