The Other thing that a home DIY can do for blockages like leaves is called a Drain Bladder/Drain Balloon. They go on an ordinary garden hose and have worked well for us historically with storm water blockages.
@realidiyrenos

Great suggestion! Those are super simple to use and can indeed clear many blockages. If nothing else, they're great for emergencies to get you back up and running quickly until you can treat the blockage either chemically or with a drain auger.

Thanks for watching and we're glad you found it useful! Oftentimes drains like this will egress at a retaining wall or at the street curb. Ours were added after the house was built, though, so that was the quickest and easiest point. I might actually prefer sand in ours lol! Ours gets clogged with leaves and other organic debris which rots and smells something awful!

I Live in a duplex. (IF you can call THIS living!). My Landlord has to come out every two months to blow out a blockage. Everytime we get a big rain. A blockage in the sewage pipe from the house to the Street occurs. There's NO sump pump in the basement. Both units are connected to the One sewage pipe going to the Street. My Landlord said it's a gravity system. ( I'm not a plumber. So, I have to take his word!) There's a pipe in the basement that pukes out the sewage into the basement. Landlord is ALWAYS mad as Effff when I have to call him. He doesn't do a thorough job at clean up in the basement. We have a dirt floor. The stench is awful!!! 🤢🤮🤢🤮🤮 I asked him to upgrade the system to utilize a sump pump. He says, "NO!!!" I'm presently saving money to move.
@realidiyrenos
@realidiyrenos Жыл бұрын
Depending on where you live, there's a good chance what your landlord is doing is illegal (as far as refusing to fix the issue correctly). Raw sewage backing up is obviously a health hazard! If you can afford it and there's nothing else keeping you there, I agree that moving out is probably your best bet. You don't want someone like that as your landlord. But if you're going to be there for a while yet, you may want to contact your city and see what kind of recourse you may have. In any case, good luck!

@@realidiyrenos Thank You for the advice. We've decided to save up the money to move. As an ace in the hole. IF he refuses to remedy the situation, we'll just move. The guy has 34 houses that he rents out. Everyone has a variety of complaints. While he and his son's ALL have beautiful homesteads on several acre farms. The county is corrupt as far as the building inspectors and judges. Money talks here. Have a GREAT weekend and be safe out there.

How would you do your French drain? I caution you if it's a true French drain that thing will absolutely destroy perforated. 2nd if your gutters are plumbed into your French drain you are taking water off of the roof and putting it into perforated pipe which means pipe that had holes in it. In simple terms your moving water from the roof to the foundation, that doesn't make does it? Gutters should be piped separately from foundation, you will overwhelm the French drain. If you would like to understand just how much water a roof can produce, disconnect a down spout and put it into a 5 gallon bucket, the next time it rains even if it's a small rain storm check the bucket then multiply it by the number of downspouts. It will shock you, how much water your moving

Did you give it a little wash first ? Jokes aside, i did the same thing as you, bought a hose that attaches to my Karcher pressure washer & it did great at clearing a drain. It’s not going to cut roots out though.
@realidiyrenos
@realidiyrenos Жыл бұрын
My inspiration for buying one of these is another KZfaq channel called Drain Addict. Now, granted, he uses a probably $2k+ professional pipe jetter but his can cut through smaller tree roots. It's possible if you have a ~4000 PSI pressure washer that you might be able to do the same. Mine is "only" 3200 so I can't say for sure, though.
@peterrudy9207
@peterrudy9207 Жыл бұрын
I think for any good results , you would need a BIG gasoline pressure washer , not that size .
@realidiyrenos

It's a 3200 PSI machine which is fairly powerful. It cleared out the lines enough that we haven't had issues with the drains backing up into our driveway anymore so it seems to have worked well enough 🤷‍♂️

It's tough to say. There's over 100 feet of pipe and I don't feel like there's a huge elevation change but it may be deceiving since the main entrance and exit are on opposite sides of the house 🤷‍♂️

Why would any pipes be draining out onto a lawn instead of directly into the drainage system. That's just yuk. That turd though 😆😆😆
@realidiyrenos
@realidiyrenos Жыл бұрын
Great question. These are outlets for drains on our driveway and a few of our gutter downspouts so it's storm water. You do not want to route storm water drains into the sewer as the large volume of storm water could quickly overwhelm the sewer system and cause sewage to back up into houses. The other option would be city/county storm drains but I've never heard of residential drain systems connecting to the city storm drain systems. So the last option is draining into the yard or street. These were installed prior to us moving in and I suspect they chose this location because it was the cheapest option. Considering it's all rain water, it's not a big deal having the outlet where it is.

The pressure washer used is 3200 PSI 2.8 gallons per minute so it uses very high pressure water with a relatively low volume. On top of that, the jetter tip I chose flows an even smaller amount of water. The goal is more so to blast the obstruction loose with high pressure water and not so much to overwhelm it with a large amount of water.
