Even though the first bottle was not perfect, you probably could have used pliers to snap off the remaining piece cleanly, then wet sanded the entire cut area. You do realize the abrasive paper you used is not wet/dry paper. Using regular sandpaper with water will make all the abrasive fall off in no time. The clear spiral glass was very nice.

Finally a life hack I already knew about! My dad has a bottle cutter and he made me a couple of these from beer bottles. Pretty cool, but honestly I never drink from them. They're just displayed on a shelf.

This also works by wrapping a cotton cord around a bottle, make sure it goes even around the bottle and has a firm knot. Then soak the cord in benzine, alcohol, acetone, nail polish remover or other flammable solvents you happen to have at home and light it on fire. Spin it a little around while the solvent is burning. When the flame is almost burnt out, cool the bottle quickly with cold water. Now you should be able to pull the bottle into two even cut pieces.

You can do it by puting a rope around the botle burnit up leav it burn and imidiatli put it in ice cold water the thermic choc willl cut the hotle wher the rope was surounding tue botle (sorry form my lauzy english ^.^)

These are awesome glasses If you soak a cotton wire in gasoiline, bind it across the bottle, light it on fire keep it sideways and turn so the fire touches all around the cutting line. then put the bottle in a bucket of cold water, the cold makes a perfect cut in the bottle.

I've worked with stain glass in the past and was going to say your first attempt could probably be saved because it is scored. You just need stain glass pliers. Probably not the official name but you can look it up. Love the swirled glass. Great ideas!

***** you'll get much less defects and a cleaner cut when you score the glass just once. I make these several at a time with a pot of boiling water and a bucket of ice water. I was amazed when I found out that when I scored the glass just once the better results I got.

An easier (and more fun) way is to take a hair tie and douse it in rubbing alcohol. Then, put the hair tie on the bottle where you want to make the cut. Light the hair tie on fire for about 10 seconds and then (while still lit) submerge the glass in ice cold water. The drastic change in temperature splits the glass wherever the hair tie was. And then sand it down and you are ready to go!

It works better to "turn towards me" when blade is towards you as well. This causes more pressure to be placed on the glass while cutting.

uneven washing with hot/cold makes it crack unevenly, recommend you use 2 bucket hot/cold water and dip the wine bottle head in and out. Btw, without bottle cutter, you can use thread wrapped with alcohol to burn a similar circular line and dip into cold water to crack it, u will get same results without paying anything.

Awesome video! Just a little suggestion of a method I've used before :D I tied a rope around the bottle around the point where I want it to cut off.... Then pour vodka (or any alcohol I believe) and light it up.... Do this out door though.... And stand back.... About 10-20 secs later it should just pop off.... Let it cool, then sand it like you did :D

try the brazilian style, put some water at the point that you want, and put a cotton string outside at the same water height, tie the string and burn it. The string will burn and the glass will cracked at the water height, so smooth the edge with fire its a good idea.

Of you could do it the simple way.... Soak a piece of yarn in a flammable liquid. Then tie is around the desired spot. Making it as straight as possible. Light the yarn with a lighter. Then quickly put the bottle in ice cold water. BOOM! I'm surprised he didn't show the more common method.

If you cant find a bottle cutter, you can use a string thats dipped in oil snd light it up on fire for a sec, then dip it in ice cold water, then it should split the bottle in half on where you put the string

easier way to break off the glass: use a rubber hammer. that's how we did it in art class when we made stained glass. that little defect could have been broken off that way. you don't SMASH the thing with the mallet, you gently tap-a-tap along the scored line and then it just breaks right off.

I found an easier way to cut it is to give it one pass on the bottle cutter(don't cut over lines, just once), get some boiling water, pour it slowly on the cut while rotating for about 10-15 secs, and then immediately pour or dowse in cold water while rotating. I have about a 9/10 success rate with this method.

Nice good thing I have a bottle cutter it's good to know that there a very good purpose for it.

Hey crazy Russian hacker you can also cut a bottle with string acetone & cold water. Tie the string around where you want to cut after soaking it in acetone, then light it on fire & keep spinning it so the fire burns it evenly until it goes out. After that put in a bath of ice water & the stress from the temperature Chang will cause it to crack where the string was. Warning the bottle may implode or shatter if heat isn't distributed evenly. I hope you can do a video on that someday you are really cool & keep it up.

There's an easier way to do this! Take a string, soak it in 91% isopropyl alcohol, tie it around the bottle at desired height, light it on fire. Let it burn for a bit, then extinguish it by dipping into cold water. The shock of the temperature change will break the glass evenly along the string. Then sand it down to make it safe

You don't actually need a bottle cutter just. Wrap a piece of yarn soaked in 90℅ or above isopropyl alcohol around the bottle, set the piece of yarn on fire and while it is still burning dip it in cold water. It will cleanly break the bottle in half. Then just sand the edges of the bottle with high grit sandpaper to smooth out the top so you don't cut you lip.

Instead of sanding it you could melt it like how normal glasses are made to give it a curved drinking edge

It's generally easier to cut all the way around the bottle once while applying a lot of pressure, then use a lighter to heat all the way around the crack. Immediately afterwards, dunk it in water with ice and it should crack cleanly. o3o It's also faster if you're making more than one at a time.

Soak a string in alcohol then wrap it around the bottle. After that light the string on fire and let it burn for a little. After that stick it in a sink full of cool water and it pops right off. Way faster and cheaper.

pay attention to the warning at the end. wash it before drinking out of it. not because of germs but because of the glass bits.

you don't need boiled water to seperate the extra glass form the bottle, jut tap the excess part with wood or anything non metal and it should seperate quite easily.

Won't risk drinking from it, but I think it'll work great as a vase or something for decorative purposes

If you dip a NOT cold bottle into hot (almost boiling) water and put your thumb over the opening, the bottle will separate quite nicely.

i used to do this with old liqour bottles. made wicked skooner mugs for parties
