New viewer here with several questions. Am I correct in that this system is a system you designed and put together rather than something you bought off the shelf? Do I understand your system correctly: heart of this system is the pump, the vacuum end of the pump is connected to the clear small-diameter hose, that clear small-diameter hose passes through an air-tight connection to an inverted plastic box placed over a large sponge, the sponge lays in the bilge to absorb water with the vacuum hose and plastic box on top of the sponge (which is weighted down), back at the pump the discharge end of the pump (the larger diameter solid white hose) is plumbed to your shower sump, the 12VDC system is powered through a timer that gives you programming options? The system works as follows; the sponge soaks up all bilge fluid it comes in contact with (works all the time until it is saturated). When the pump is turned on, the top of the sponge is subject to low pressure, vacuum, from the pump through the hose which has an air-tight connection to the plastic lid to keep it from sucking air instead of bilge fluid. The fluid is then routed from the sponge to the pump under vacuum and then ejected out of the pump under pressure to the shower sump and then on to the grey water tank (by the shower sump pump). The system runs as long as the timer is powered, and that is determined by the setup of the timer itself? Did I get that correct? How exactly is the clear plastic hose interfaced with the sponge to keep the orifice at the end of the hose from getting clogged by the sponge itself when the vacuum is applied? The sponge itself will act as a filter to block larger particles from clogging the line leading to the pump, but how do you ensure the orifice end remains open and clear?

Very very close. The one main thing that isnt quite right is that the timer activates the dry bilge pump. As you said the dry bilge pump is the one plumbed into the box/sponge and yes that side is under vacuum. The timer allows you to program something like 16 stops/starts for any amount of time. I have it coming on about 6 or 7 times a day for around 15 minutes. That's really just to soak up rainwater when it storms out. No other water gets in the boat. So after a rain If there is water in the bilge then it will be pumped into the large shower sump. The shower sump overboard pump has a simple bilge float switch and pump. So when its somewhat full it just pumps it overboard. The clear plastic hose is interfaced with the sponge simply by being pushed into the middle range of the sponge depth. You might adjust it until you get your best flow. The sponge does act as a filter. And so far in several years I have never cleaned it or changed it and it still works great. The whole thing works great. Highly recommended to either make or buy something like this. No bilge smell or water for years now. One thing, dont make the suction hose to big, it needs a certain amount of velocity to pull the water up to the pump under vacuum.

@@apackwestbound5946 No problem at all. That's why I made this channel. To share info. It certainly wasn't due to thoughts of becoming famous by outlining a dry bilge set up...lol.

How long does the pump run every time it cycles on? Have you considered an adjustable vacuum switch to shut the pump off when it is no longer sucking water? Another option could be a flow switch on the outlet side of the pump..

The timer, especially the new one, you are able to set exactly how long you want it to run. Right now I have it set to run 4 times a day for 15 minutes each time. We havent had much rain lately so the bilge is dusty dry. I have considered some of the ideas you mention as well as a few others. However I always settle back to simply using the timer. That style pump has no issues running wet or dry for 15 minutes at a time....or much much longer. So adding additional switches, connections, sensors IMO will likely just cut down on reliability. Right now with just the timer/pump/pickup it has essentially worked flawlessly for nearly 2 years. As a side benifit...since the bilge is almost always completely dry...the main and emergency bilge pumps, switches and wires stay in excellent shape. I test them every now and then just to be sure they work. And they always do. Prior to the dry bilge set up I was always cleaning or clearing the main bilge or replacing it because they are just generally poorly made these days and cant stand to sit in water.

It's still going strong. Bilge is still dry. I actually fixed all the fresh water leaks so I really need to set the timer to once a day or once every other day. Currently its running 4 times a day, but of course the bilge is pretty dry now. So all in all ...still a cheap effective addition.
