DIY EASY NO SEW FRENCH COUNTRY SHABBY CHIC FARMHOUSE TABLE RUNNER (149)

In this video I create a rustic French country farmhouse, shabby chic, ruffled, table runner using scrap fabrics from around my home. I cut 3 pieces of drop cloth to make the runner. Large piece measures: 50L X 13 1/4W" and interior pieces measures: 24L each X 9W". If using one piece of fabric for the interior layer it would need to be 48". The measurements for your runner will depend on the size of table or furniture you will be displaying it on. I make a 3 tiered ruffle on one end using a flour sack towel, sheet and a drop cloth scrap. The long ruffle measures: 7" W and the shorter ruffles measures 4" W. I create each ruffle using a simple no sew method. I recommend using finger protectors or a low temp glue gun for this project. I use my hot glue gun to create the pleated ruffle and then show how you can embellish the ends of your runner to match any decor or style. This table runner would make a great addition to so many various pieces of furniture and displayed on decor ladders, kitchen counters, tables or dressers. So many uses for this runner and can be customized to suit any decor or style. I show in the video how well this runner can be paired with many textures and colors including burlap bows and rosette flowers. I stage the runner showing the many ways it can dress up any space in your home and bring out that French Country Shabby Farmhouse flare! Teresa, that is just lovely! I think it is so funny that you put it up at this time because I have put away a whole bunch of stuff that I’ve gathered together that is all country French and I’m going to bring out in the fall. I will definitely be making one of these, possibly two, for my kitchen. I was so excited to see the trim package by Michael’s. I didn’t even know anyone had anything like that. So I linked on from your site and ordered it. I hope that you will do some more country French. I’ve got my beautiful blue antique plates, roosters, and copper all tucked safely away until I change out the season, and I would love to see what other kinds of things you come up with. Love it! I am going tomorrow to purchase a vintage chest of drawers that I found on marketplace and i think I am going to make one of these to lay across the top! I think it will be so pretty! Growing up my dad and step mom had an old set of dressers that had belonged to my grandparents and i remember my step mom always having a really pretty runner laying across them. I am in love with this! I can already see vision of curtains similar to the table runner 😁 I am already gathering my supplies! What kind of glue/glue gun should I get? I am wondering about washing these after they are made & being used.

You can buy hot glue for fabric that is washable!

I am so in love with your table runners! I made curtains for my bedroom using dropcloth. I love them! But I do have a question. How do you get your dropcloth so light colored? I wash mine with clorox before I make something each time, but mine never comes out that light.

Thank you, Teresa! I think the trick to making them white is to let them soak for hours in the Clorox. I have drop cloth curtains throughout my home also. Are you familiar with the channel, Farmhouse on Boone? She has a good video on how she bleached hers. It’s an older video but you may get some good info on how to whiten them more. Hope this helps! Yes, I probably need some finger protectors too! I buy most of my drop cloths from Lowe’s but just ordered one from Amazon. Walmart sometimes has them too. Hope this helps! Happy 4th!

Would fabric glue give a softer hold than the hot glue? Just wondering if it has enough sticking power since the drop cloth is a bit sturdier.

i love the table runner , but i have to ask how do you wash this seeing its glued and you have card under the flowers ????

This could not be washed. It would be for decorative uses only. You would need to sew it if you wanted to wash it and take the embellishments off. Thanks for watching!

How wide is the first ruffle supposed to be? She said 7”, that can’t be if the width of the runner is 13 3/4”. I think she meant 7” long. So how wide should I cut the flour sack to make sure it’s wide enough to pleat it and end up with 13 3/4 inches?

Thanks so much for watching Lori! You are correct the length of the ruffle is 7 inches long. To make the width of the ruffle I cut my fabric at least twice as wide (27.5 inches) to allow for the pleats and gathering. You can always cut the excess fabric once you covered the width of the runner. Thanks again hope this helps.
