I bought this water heater kzfaq.infoUgkx8G49mV71sAzUl9shXyLW-r3XgHH9EVh1 for use in my bus conversion. I installed it under my kitchen sink and it is fed by a high efficiency on-demand LP water heater. It is both a backup hot water source as well as a water saving device since we have hot water on demand rather than having to wait for the gas on demand water heater to finish its ignition cycle. I decided on this water heater due to the fact that it only draws 1300watts when it's ON instead of the 1500 watts that most Water heaters this size draw. In an RV a couple hundred watts can be a big deal. With very low standby losses, I don't have to worry about excessive power consumption. When propane is not available for our gas water heater, in conjunction with our low flow shower head there is enough hot water available to shower, albeit we won't be taking "hotel showers." Also very happy with the recovery rate of this water heater. Granted, it is quite small, but it does exactly what we need it to do.

Water heater went out about two weeks ago. Attempted to relight but pilot light wouldn’t stay lit. Next thing I did was replace the thermocouple (as almost every video on KZfaq says that’s most likely the issue), still nothing, not even a flame at this point, just a spark from the ignitor and that was it. Next I replaced the thermostat and that fixed the issue. It took a few attempts to get it to ignite, but eventually it took and we’re good to go now. Once the pilot light was present and stayed lit, we had hot water again, but very low water pressure in a few of the faucets throughout the house going into the next day (about 12 hours had elapsed at this point since the water heater had been repaired). Basically, when I drained the tank and refilled it, sediment caked some of the faucets when the cold water inlet was opened to refill the tank (this is a common occurrence). Alls I had to do at that point was remove the aerator’s from the effected faucets, clean them with a toothbrush, reassemble them, and then we had full water pressure back as well as hot water. Note: I used an 18” Milwaukee pipe wrench to remove my old thermostat and it worked perfectly for leverage and strength. Thank you for this video, it was very beneficial.

That is called a pipe wrench (AKA monkey wrench). You can use a ratchet extension (or a length of 1/2" pipe) inserted into the gas inlet receptical and use it as a breaker bar to get stubborn thermostats out. Doesn't matter if you damage the threads, you are throwing the thing away.

Good job, make sure you check and clean the combustion air screen(arrester plate) periodically. If too much lint and dust get collected on it, Pilot will drop out due to starvation of air.

BTW the part uv swapped out is not the thermostat its actually called gas control valve which happens to have the therstat located inside it.

You should be using a piece of pipe screwed in to where the main gas line was screwed in without the fitting. You use the pipe as the wrench to turn the thermostat.

I want to do away with the newer control valve that needs replacing regularly, and put an older and more reliable valve in, is this possible? Or have they put different threads on the control valves so it isn't? Honeywell has some good products, but their gas control valves go out with very annoying frequency.
