Today I'll show you how to use melt and pour soap base and unmounted rubber stamps to make boutique quality soaps! These are a hit for gifts as well as items to sell at craft fairs.
You will need:
Melt and pour soap base
a microwave or double boiler (basicly a pan of boiling water to place your jar of soap cubes in to melt)
a microwave safe jar or pyrex cup
Unmounted rubber stamps mine are from About Art Accents: www.artneko.com/
A spoon
Molds such as clean yogurt cups, milk cartons or store bought molds with smooth bottoms
Optional: soap fragrance and colors, herbs, oatmeal or other embedments a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol in it to get rid of bubbles on the back of soap
You can find soap making supplies at any large craft store (great time to use a coupon!) or online, I have ordered from The Chemistry Store with good results: www.chemistrystore.com/
any questions? Leave a comment, I am happy to help:)

My daughter (home from college) and I made our own soap once when I won a kit. We didn't have any dye or scent so she mixed in food colouring and flavouring from spice rack...it was terrible smelling soap. Then she decided to move the poured molds over to the table and dropped them on the floor. What a mess. We were laughing so hard trying to scrape up the hardened soap. I saved some of them and keep them in a jar in the bathroom as a reminder of a fun, albeit, messy day! Yours turned out much better.

You are adorable as always... We have a small tip for you, if you don't mind. ~ Although we make Cold Process Soap the liquid issues are similar. Lightly lifting and tapping down your molds, after filling, may help to eliminate internal bubbles and assist your stamps to stay put before seepage. ~ Happy New Year!

Kathryn Ellison HI I had the same issue and I was told about this wonderful website called indigo. they have a lot of fragrances but if there is one that you'd like them to match up all you to do is send them a message. There fragrances are also concentrated so little goes a long way. hope this helps :-)

Lindsay, years ago, I was into soap making and bought tons of glycerin blocks. I stored them in Rubbermaids and haven't used them in years. Are they still good after about 12+ years or should I just chuck them? Like lots of crafters, I do too many kinds of crafts and, eventually, many go to the wayside after a while and I end up with lots of materials left over. LOL!
@thefrugalcrafter
@thefrugalcrafter 10 жыл бұрын
I bet they are fine:) They might had dried out a bit but that is no big deal, cut some up and melt it and see how it goes. The soap has no color and fragrance to go bad and since it was stored in a sealed container it probably has not dried out much.

For melt and pour soap you need soap base, a glass measureing cup to melt it in and something to pour it in like a mold or a loaf pan or washed yogurt cups. After that you can get creative with scents and colors and additives.

@thefrugalcrafter
@thefrugalcrafter 10 жыл бұрын
for this project yes! I find that good quality deeply etched stamps really don't need the cushion especially if you are using a curved block. I use EZ mount if I am in a hurry and need to stamp my new stamp now but often i slap some Aleens Tack It on the back and let it dry so it is a sticky stamp like I used in the tutorial. I'm fickle LOL!

Hi Jody, the great thing about this is that you can use a lot of items from your kitchen: Pyrex measuring cups, microwave, spoons and you can fine enbedments in your cupboards: tea, herbs, spices, oatmeal, dry milk, honey, and things to use as molds: loaf pans lined with plastic wrap for sliced soaps, small tupperware for individual soaps to use stamps with etc. So all you need to go out and buy are soap base, fragrance and color if desired. I've seen soap molds at ACmoore with a plastic embossing plate that you put in a recess of the mold to make the printed soaps and you might want to try that if you don't have any unmounted or clear stamps too. You can save money buying the soap base online or everyone could pick up their own with a coupon at the craft store, you will probably each want a 2lb block of base but you could all share a kit of fracrence and color. You will each need your own molds but everyonce can bring their own: silicone cupcake lines and small pans, washed yogurt cups, small milk cartons etc and everyone should have their own large glass measuring cup to microwave in. Does that help? Sounds like a fun class, can I come? LOL! BTW, if you want to order the soap online I get mine from The Chemistry Store, they have fragrence and color there too if you want to order it all at one place, the soap is WAY cheaper but you do need to pay shipping by weight.

Hi Lindsay, love your videos, and thanks for always sharing and giving so much information. I am a multi-crafter too, knitting, sewing, quilts, jewellery and now cards. OMgoodness! Hope you and your family have a fabulous Christmas, (with electricity!) and look forward to many more videos. I am going to have a shot at painting the cosmos flowers. Do you know if regular card stock is water colour paper? I have water colour pads but just thought of it the other day. anyway, cheers from down under where we have power, and sunshine, and probably some very hot days coming up!

We lost power Monday and just got it back, it was an old fashioned Christmas but a great one never the less! Watercolor paper is different that cardstock, it has sizing in it that keeps the water from pilling the paper, it is thicker and usually made of cotton.

Ah, thanks Lindsay, good to know. I tend to think out of the box and do things differently! I got pastel pencils from my daughter for Christmas...they are beautiful, Staedtler brand. You must be having some crummy weather their in Maine! But so long as you have the wood stove, all is good!! Where I live is right near coal fired Power Stations, and we all get a bit huffy if there is no power!! Lots of the men work in them and their fathers before them!

prettyblimp she will love them, my girls wanted to use mine after I made the santa drawing tutorial, they really can't hurt them, just have her hand sharpen them and not drop them. We had power crews up from as far away as Rhode Island working (and missing Christmas with their families) so I can't complain, we had heat and everyone was safe:) It will be a Christmas to remember, that's for sure!

You do realize that when using vanilla fragrance oils or fragrance oils that contain vanilla in soap, that if you don't use a vanilla stabilizer your soap over the course of a few weeks will then brown.

Andy M I did not know that, the soap is still pretty but more of a cream and less green tinted now, that must be why:) Thanks for letting me know:)

Always check your labels on fragrance oils. A lot of them do contain vanilla. A good FO will list the percentage of vanilla it contains, when there's vanilla it. NOTE: When buying stabilizer make sure you get stabilizer for the type of soap your processing i.e. melt & pour, cold or hot process.
