If you can’t put them on your doors. Do what my friend did, She mounted them on a board and turned them into coat hooks to hang hats and coats on. They look so cute and have character

You can get a cone shaped bit to fit in your drill, which can make the hole in the plate a little larger.

If I was seeking that style knob, I would buy them all even if damaged or chipped. In my restoration projects I enjoy old, even if imperfect. Please consider selling all or including the damaged ones free with purchase -many of us would snap them up for continuity of style and authenticity. 👍🤩

Hi Sophia. Can you just file the inside of the rosette hole? If it’s only 1mm it shouldn’t take long. I have a jewelry studio in my home and file metal all the time. And brass is very soft. They have half circle files. Should be very easy. Just a thought.

Could you make a wooden medallion-face plate to cover the larger hole with the center hole in it for your door knob?

When the carpet was taken up from my house I too have the door gaps. Don't have matching knobs on my doors either. My cat loves to play under the doors.

Can you get a drill bit to cut the hole larger in the piece you bought?

Maybe make a cardboard one out of a cereal box so you could see if it even works without putting a whole Lotta effort into it.

Hi Sophia, Do you have a Step Drill Bit? That would work to enlarge the hole on the new rosettes so you can still use these gorgeous knobs!

It would look like a diy job. They sell those. I don't like them. I even looked into square ones.

Hey, it happens. At least you tried. You should see when I got that huge excavator to move that shed that was an epic fail. Caved the corners in. Sheesh.

Can U heat it up to make it fit. Melt the metal a bit.

I don't call it a fail because you taught us something about doors. I live in a 1790's house and it's got small holes for door knobs on some of th interior doors. Thank you for making us aware of the difference in size. And about looking out for the shaved doors from people getting those deep carpets. I apreciate your efforts. I bet you could find the right doors at a salvage yard that deals with historical preservation.

Have you considered attaching the antique handles to a wood piece (Plywood?) Then attaching the the the wood to the door? The wood could be painted or stained to match your decor. Tfs

Sophia, sorry this project didn’t work out for you. I am sure the new handles you purchase will still look very nice. At least since you have cleaned up three of the glass handles so well, it will enable you to sell them.
