This project started during the fall of 2021 looking for a suitable site and taking detailed measurements. In winter of 2022 we created a plan and stored materials and salvaged and restored windows. In spring, summer, and fall, we spent a full week on site, a week of prefabricating at home, and about 6 weekends building on site. It totaled about 30 days of building. This video is an introduction to progress so far, which is a mostly finished exterior.
The project continues in spring 2023! More videos to come.

Thanks! I'll give credit where it is due, and the ladder design is based on a video from Nelson Treehouse. The other build videos and final reveal are now out as well.

Thanks, I followed what other treehouse builders have done, so it wasn't my idea, but it did work really well.

Hey Cory. Awesome treehouse and awesome video. Since you invited questions: Can you show how the beams attach to the trees, and how the whole structure accommodates movement of the trees?
@bigfamilyadventure
@bigfamilyadventure Жыл бұрын
Thanks! It's pretty wild up there on a windy day, it definitely moves. There are essentially 1" steel bolts in each tree that stick out a foot. The beams rest on these. Each bolt has a bracket to hold the beam down, and 1 bracket is fixed and 3 can allow sliding. We used cables or struts to give extra support to the free end. We didn't get footage for all of the hardware, but I bought commercially available hardware from Nelson Treehouse, of Treehouse Masters TV show. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mbmRo8aCy9uteWQ.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lZNyqdFqvczeYJs.html

Great family project! Did you allow for wind & tree growth? I'm researching to build my 1st tree house.

We did try to follow best practices. I bought a how to book by Pete Nelson and followed pretty closely. I got TAB bolts from his site and used floating brackets on 3 of the 4 trees. They are expensive but more peace of mind. The tree diameter should be able to grow 6 inches without problems. Hopefully that will be 20+ years. Good luck on your project.

I might be able to learn details as we talk more with the neighbors. The property was in the same family for many decades, and relatives still live nearby. It has been there long enough for 80 foot trees to block it in. There is a tag that reads "Briggs Body Number 805" and a serial 125855. Some searching online looks like it could be a 1950 Plymouth. I'm not a classic car expert, so if anyone finds more, comment!

We're looking into short term options, but long term will probably be an accessory structure on a homeowner policy - later on when we finish a cabin we are planning.
