Pro tip: I use the tip of an old hot glue gun to do the exact same thing and melt/"weld" the foam

You could even cover the styrofoam in grout to add a more realistic texture. One or two coats of watered down grout shouldn't add much weight and would add a ton of imperfections for realism.

And it probably would also take away this weird styrofoam feel when touching the wall, right? Has anyone tried it?

+Pheove it's a really common technique for building foam rocks such as for reptile enclosures, it works great for that. Usually you spray some watered down glue over it after to seal it, but that's not exactly necessary.

Way late...but.. foam core boards or plywood etc...covered in spackle ..sometimes a base layer..let dry..then add another thick coat..then before it sets you drag the lines to "carve" out the lines to make the bricks... we use it for theatre sets.. to make bricks..stone..tile..then paint everything...you can take a brick sized and shaped sponge to add more grout to the "bricks" adding more dimension to each brick..and more texture..before painting...using theatre set tricks can sometimes turn plain jane items into really amazing items...and in rentals using some of the theatre set theory can help too... backdrops on rollershade devices using flats...like movable frames with feet to make walls... so many different possibilities... i hope people really used the idea in thus video to make amazing walls that could move with them from one apartment to another...

you guys should do a price comparison when it's possible like how much u spent on this diy versus how much it would have cost to buy the already made faux brick. and you can do it for other videos too. I think it would be helpful :)

THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST DIY'S ON THE INTERNET! I've been trying to redo my wall for quite some time now but I rent the place so I can't paint it or glue wallpaper on. Just two questions: Could I use a dremel instead of the plastic welder? And I have lights and a light switch on the wall I want to do this on. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks! xx

+flora li Hey! I think we saw someone else using a dremel on styrofoam, maybe just do a quick google search. I had an outlet and I just cut it out using an exact knife!

+flora li the issue that seems to present its self to me is that your brick woudlnt come forward in an actual brick wall, the plate of the light switch or plug in would sit ontop of the brick so it would be kind of obviously fake. if that doesnt bug you ive seen high density Styrofoam cut with a dremel to make holes (which would then be used to reach your switches) but i think you need the welder to get this effect on the actual board D:

You could probably use fine point soldering iron. I've used it successfully in the past on plastics and regular Styrofoam, will probably work on that Durofoam stuff, too.

Best tutorial on internet. The details in those fake bricks make it look GREAT and soooo real. And the idea of stick it up with that little sticky things is amazing, so if you wanna take if off some day you just pull it out and thats all. Love all your tutorials

I had to see how you did this after watching your bedroom makeover. It turned out amazing!! I live in a rental in Toronto too and the entire apartment has pastel yellow walls and I want them to be white. Kind of tempted to make this for an accent wall in my living room!
