DIY Flash Diffuser for DSLR Built-in Pop-up Flashes

5 жыл бұрынIn this easy tutorial, I will show how to create a DSLR camera flash diffuser for your built-in pop-up flash. It's easy and inexpensive because you probably already have the supplies at home and if not, they are very cheap!

FLASH DIFFUSER SUPPLIES:
Gray cardboard with a thickness that fits into the flash slot
White and black cardstock (or pattern if you like)
White glue or mod podge
Hot glue gun.
Cutter
Embossing tool (or a pen that no longer works or the back edge of a scissor)
Tracing paper.
Adhesive tape (optionally)

You put white paper on the inside to reflect the light out through the semi-clear screen. If I used foil on the inside would it be more reflective?

Oh gosh, I am so sorry I didn't reply to your comment. I just realized I had some comments held in a different place. sorry sorry, I always do my best to reply to all comments!!! Firstly thank you for your comments, and Yessss, foil works perfectly well, although it's trickier to work with. I did also a flash bounce using foil.

@@urimsuh Oh wow! Glad I could help. I can't really say which one would be actually better. Probably the $30 is a lot more professional but for me, this one worked just fine and I can remake it and switch internal color with foil for example or switch the draft paper to one a bit yellowish to play around with it. That's what I love the most! Let me know how it goes for you! Regards!

ok, first of all I searched for such thing and opened 9 diff videos in new tabs to watch and your one is the first and honestly i don't feel like watching the other 8 videos!!! this is the first video of yours that I watched and you deserved my subs. cant understand why you don't have more followers by now. wish you all the best for the future. just 1 thing though!! I was really hoping for a with and with out comparison photo at the end of the video.

What are the dimensions of the pattern in centimetres as lockdown is going on and can't print.?

If you pint it at its 100%, no fitting on paper you are good to go. Hope this helps.

Ok. So first problem I had, was it was too small. I fixed that by extending the width a little. The new problem I'm having. Is my flash does not work when the tab is in the hot shoe!!! It has a sensor to turn off the cameras built in flash. If I don't use the tab, the diffuser falls off.

I'm so sorry it didn't fit. Curious about what camera you got. I have 2, an old Nikon and a Canon. It fits both and none of them have any problems fitting the tab in the flash shoe. It's hard to test on all cameras. Thank you for pointing this out.

I did not provide any specific measurements since the pattern you can download comes it the exact size you need it in order to fit into the flash foot slot. Hope this helps!

@@riteshmanandhar6249 Nothing to apologize for. The link is there if you still need it, for some reason the text got the same color as the button but it's there. If you go to the post scroll down until you see the Flash diffuser supplies. There you will see a pink button and also the word here in pink right above both links will let you download the pattern. This is perfect, have to try it! What thickness/gram is the tracing paper?

Thank you! The tracing paper is regular printer paper so you can print the pattern and cut it out. The cardboard I don't really recall but the reference is the external flash slot it needs to fit in there. Hope this helps.

be careful, making the hotshoe section too thick might on some cameras detect it as external flash connected and disable the pop-up flash

Yes, that's right, and a great point out! Mine had a weight enough for it not to press on the sensors so it works perfectly, but someone had told me that he used a thicker one and it did disable the flash. Thank you for your input, I appreciate it!

Just by curiosity, what are the dimensions of the rectangular? Do I print in A4 size or something else? Very helpful tutorial!

The printable file can be printed in both Letter and A4 as long as you don't check fit to page. It will print to the right size. After that, you transfer the patter to the cardboard or your chosen material. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. hugs

@@thecraftingnookds yes I have tried tissue paper but it absorbs so much that almost none of light hit the model Now I am heading towards the tracing paper that you have suggested

Hola Alexis, mira el formato es carta o A4, imprimiendo al 100% y sin ajustar al papel. El material que utilice fue carton de constrccion, el que usan los arquitectos para maquetas. Usé el de 2mm grosor. Tiene que ser de un grosor que pase libremente por la zapata del flash externo de tu camara. Ya para la parte estetica depende de ti. La cartulina que mas te guste. Espero que te ayude. De igual forma todos los detalles los consigues en el tutorial linkeado en la descripcion. Saludos!

@@alexisblas2182 el formato es el tamaño del papel que uses en tu pais. algunos paises usan carta otro A4. Una vez los descargas (desde el tutorial linkeado en la descripcion), lo mandas a imprimir y en los ajusts le dices que imprima al 100%. Y ya con eso puese seguir las instrucciones del tutorial.

Por fin di con el problema, llevo ya tiempo tratando de entender por que a mi me descargaba y a los demas no, pero resulto el download manager el que estaba fallando. Ya esta arreglado (espero) y podras descargar el archivo!

I don't recommend using normal paper. I use cardstock so that doesn't happen. If you want to use paper then recommend changing the glue to mod podge or UHU glue. Hope this helps!
