You have asked time and time again for me to post a video showing you how to make foam stamps. Well here it is.
In Part 1 I will show you just how easy it is to make foam stamps. Then in Part 2 we will make some prints using those foam stamps!
All you need:
Foam, sticking back is convenient but not necessary. You can always just use glue.
Cardboard. I just grab some from the recycling! There's usually an Amazon box or 5 lying around.
Scissors
Pen or marker for drawing your designs

I love the gelli plate!! Your creative juices start pouring when you get it out. Some of my favorite things to use.... the net from bags of produce, looks like snake skin; bubble wrap, large and small; shelf liner gives a nice texture; a sink mat (one you would lay in the sink to protect glasses) it has squares and I've gotten some really nice texture from that one; taking off the paper from one side of corrugated cardboard so you can get the ridges; laying down scrunched up saran wrap or grocery bags. It's amazing how you look at things differently when you have gelli plating in mind. Thanks for sharing your time and ideas. I get inspired when I watch you.

You can adhere these foam shapes to a lint roller from the Dollar Tree also. I made probably eight of them that way. New subscriber here and enjoying your vids.

Denise-darn it, after seeing two of your videos, I was forced (yes, that is not too strong a word) to subscribe to your channel. Not to sound too pretentious, but I have only subscribed to three other art channels in the several years (three, maybe?) I’ve been using KZfaq for art lessons. And here is another great video (I love to dig into previous videos from the best of the best tutors-and you definitely qualify). My work, such as it is (I’m pretty new to gel printing, but I am a self-professed technique junkie ) is going to improve using your techniques. Thank you for your help!

What a terrific video! Thank you for so many great ideas. Lately, I rarely throw anything out without considering how I can use it for a craft project. I have "trained" my family to ask before they throw things out. Needless to say, they are not too thrilled. LOL

I wonder if you could mount your shapes on acetate? It would be flimsier than the cardboard, but you would be able to see the placement and then use cardboard or other hard, flat object to push it down. It would mean less cutting of long pieces of cardboard too ;-) I always end up with sheets of acetate from the packaging my kids toys come in and although I find use for a lot of it, there is always more! Just a thought. Great stuff :-)

Hi Denise and thank you for your share, still loving watching you "processing" ;) actually , as i was making my own ones, i found that you can make really fine details like feathers of a little bird just with a sharp tool like a needle or even a pointy cutter and there is no need to push hard into the foam just draw and it makes amazing prints ;) watching your vid always makes me finding inspiration :D

Great video Denise, thanks for sharing! Hehe I still have to give this ago (bit like scrappy with the gel printing lol), although I have made stamps with thread and string around a wooden block! The wooden block was from an old wooden stamp I didn't like! I have tonnes of those from the 'olden' days when we all used wooden stamps! Love the one you loved most... your own stamp design line next Denise 👍🏻😃

I have a micro tn that I want to make stamps for and your tutorial is exactly what i was looking for, tho instead of using cardboard, i used my 2 part epoxy and some flat geometric pendant molds to make clear bases for my stamps. It will also keep stamp size in mind since the largest one is less than 3 inches long, then i will glue some push-pins to the backs for handles. Thank you again for such a wonderful tutorial!!!

Great video, Denise! I've made foam stamps with my ScanNCut....from images in the machine and ones that I've hand drawn (especially intricate ones). When I do, I've found it best to use the non-sticky foam (and then glue to a cardboard mount). The SNC also can be use to make your own stencils. Once saved in the machine they can be scaled up or down which is really great (plus a lot of other options).

Yes I've see Julie Fei Fan Balzer use and promote that machine a lot! Looks like a great, handy tool. If I had known about it before hand, I think I would have purchased that one instead of my Silhouette!

Another great video full of ideas! Wonk-it indeed! 🤣 And what was that nifty punch gadget you used? Those lines you made with the stylus should show up in the print. Occasionally the lines will need retracing but you can add great detail that way.

Thanks I haven't had a problem so far. I wouldn't leave thick layers of paint on them. I just stamp off the excess paint on a scrap piece of paper. If you're concerned you could wipe them off with a baby wipe or cloth. I figure if I love the stamp that much and it no longer works, I'll just make another one! lol

Do you put handles on your foam stamps? The only idea I have seen is masking tape folded in half in the center and use the ends to tape it to cardboard. Any other options out there?

I love making stamps this way! What type of glue do you recommend? The type I used kinda doesn’t work so well and my stamps came apart. I have tons of foam that I want to use before buying the sticky back kind next time.
@DeniseLush
@DeniseLush 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I would just try white glue first. See if that holds up. If not, then you could always use something stronger like E6000 or something. I haven't used glue yet. So I guess it would just be a matter of trying and seeing what works for you!
